We are going on Carnival Victory soon. I know the attire for adults in the dining room is no shorts, but was wondering about the kids. I am not talking about "sports style" type shorts, but nice dress shorts. I have heard differing answers on this, and wondered if anyone else could offer the inside scoop here.
Jeff,
The rule states "no shorts". It doesn't specify age or gender. Now if the child was 5 or under maybe but I wouldn't think so over that age if at all.

My wife and I just came off of the Victory last week on a cruise to Nova Scotia. You need not concern yourself with any type of dress code. We made the mistake of believing what was written in the "Carnival Capers" about dress code for formal night. What a joke! Now , I didn't wear a tux and my wife didn't wear a cocktail dress but we were business formal. I can't begin to tell you how many men I saw come in wearing shorts and sneakers with their shirts hanging out! I couldn't believe that no one stopped them at the entrance. Had I known this in advance I would have dressed a bit more casually to be comfortable.
I hope this info helps. Enjoy your trip.
