Impressions of this cruise? Is late November a good time of year to take it? What did you think of the ship?
My wife and two boys, ages 9 & 12, are going. We've booked an outside room on the empress deck. They're excited about the cruise, Mayan ruins, and New Orleans.
Any suggestions for a good place to stay in New Orleans? I've stayed in the French Quarter by myself before, but my family's never been there before. I'm looking for something appropriate for family outings for a few days before the cruise.
Re: Inspiration in November, hotels in New Orleans
Planning on going on the Inspiration next June, so can not help you there. I would think that any time would be a good time. Might be a little cool in New Orleans in November.
As far as a place to stay in New Orleans; we have always enjoyed the Hilton Riverside. Close to the docks, French Quarter, trolley stop out front, casino across the street, Riverwalk Mall next door. Make sure you get a room on the side facing the river so you can watch the ships go by. The Inspiration will dock within view.
Also good are the Wyndham Riverfront, and Chateau Sonesta Hotel in the French Quarter (good place to stay if you want to stay in the Quarter).
As long as you stay off Bourbon Street, the French Quarter is OK for families. Check out the French Market and Jackson Square. Also, Aquarium Of The Americas, next to the Quarter is worth seeing.
Some of the best food on the face of the earth can be found in the French Quarter. Enjoy.
Most hotels will have deals, especially if you reserve over the internet.
Look forward to hearing about your trip. If I can be of further help, let me know.
