...A question about the cost of a cruise on these boards? I have never sailed with Carnival, but have been twice with Celebrity and want to give the Destiny a try.
I know you folks have a lot more knowledge than I and would love to hear your comments.
Hi Mike,
As you already know, the price all depends on what type of cabin you book, airlines, etc. You may want to post on the "bargain finder" and get some prices on Destiny:

Here is also a memebers review of Destiny, may help answer any questions:
Hi Mike,
Sure you can go ahead and post that information, not sure if you will get any responses, but you never know? Just like airline tickets, if you ever ask the people around you on a plane, almost everyone paid a different price, so if you feel you got a good deal, just be happy with that, go on the cruise and have fun. It does always pay to shop around before booking and find a good travel agent with a decent price, the cheapest price isn't always the best, having a good t/a is worth a few extra bucks in my opinion.
First Donna, I have to tell you I love how your personality comes through the screen. Thank you for that, it is very refreshing!
* The goal is for the Destiny 2/24/02 - 3/3/01 on their Southern Caribbean tour.
* Fly out of MNPLS with a direct flight (North West) to to San Juan. Roundtrip transfers to airport/pier.
* Room is a category 8A (Oceanview Stateroom w/ balcony "Upper" Deck).
Price all told; air, room, taxes and such is $1,689.00 per person.
My wife and I are 35 and like to let loose, but still have some of the glamour of cruising. Not crazy, but like to have fun.
Our only other cruises have been with Celebrity on the Mercury and Millenium. We had a balcony room on the Mercury and it was fantastic. I understand these are two different types of experiences, but I hope Destiny is still a class experience.
Mike,
All in all that sounds like a decent deal, the air to San Juan is the killer I actually love the southern itinaries best, lots of stops, the only downer is not a lot of "sea" days, but if you find yourself on an island that you really don't care for, you can get back onboard nice and early and have the ship to yourself, (almost), or not even get off, its your choice. I have heard a lot of good things about Destiny, so I think you will like the ship a lot.
I also have to agree with you about having balconies, they really spoil you, have to have them, much nicer cruise expierence. I'd go for it, but also another thought, a bunch of us from Cruisemates are going on Golden Princess for New Years, how does that sound?? Here is the info. in case it does sound appealing to you and your wife, its going to be a blast for sure:

FYI, we leave from San Juan, then to St. Thomas, then Antigua, Guadeloupe, "Sea Day", Aruba, "Sea Day", back to San Juan. We are like you, we also LOVE sea days.
Believe me, I have checked out the New Years cruise several times. The biggest problem is it is to close to Christmas and we have two young children. I hope in the next year or so, you can have one later in the winter. I would love to meet you and the rest of the gang.
As for the cost of my cruise, it seems to be in line with any thing else I can find on the internet. I believe my TA is being fair with me. And you are correct, once you start to fly over water, the cost for air goes through the roof. So when you take that out, it seems like a darn good deal for the balcony room.
I must admit that Carnivals past reputation has given me some hesitation. But I have also heard some very good things about Destiny and I know I have to keep an open mind.
We are very close to booking. I just would like to see the travel industry drop some prices, they keep talking about the drop in business they have seen.
Hi again Mike,
Yep, hoping the prices will go down and then you can book, sounds like a great cruise, bet you do have a great time and also going with an open mind does wonders :-)
Definately keep checking for any new Cruisemates cruises, there is already one on Summit to Hawaii in May, absolutely wonderful, but too long for me to get away, but more sure to come for next year.
Mike,
I think you will be pleased with the cost as well as the accomadations on any of the Carnival Carribean ships. I am very partial to balcony rooms and find them so affordable on carnival.I have sailed both Princess and Celebrity and find that I can vacation in the same style for less money with Carnival. More spending money in the ports!
Last minute bookings are the best deals. Or I have found that my Sams Club Membership gets the best discounts and than AOL travel is next. Air fair with your cruise booking is always the cheapest and definatley less hassle.
Always buy Ins!
Enjoy!
