Default Safety on ships..

I am getting ready to leave on a cruise Oct.1st.One of my main concerns is safety concerning the recent terrorist attacks in NYC.I have never been on a cruise before and we have planned this cruise for over a year now. It took me a little while to make my mind up of whether or not to go due to this issue.I feel that if I let these people put fear in my life well then they WIN and I am not going to stand for that.I just would like to have some reassurance please...I am a 1st time flyer to and I was afraid to fly before this and I am really leary now!!!Help!! Any replies soon would be appreciated!!!! Thanks,Kim

Right now is the safest time to fly. Everything is being watched so carefully that no one would try to do the same again. If someone tried on a plane I think that all the passengers would tear them apart before they got anywhere near the co-pit! My friend just flew two days ago and he said it was great. The planes where not crowed, everyone was polite, and there was no circling forever in the sky to land so they landed ahead of schedule.

As for the cruise. They will screen your baggage with an x-ray machine and probably have a bomb sniffing dog run through the terminal. You have to give picture ID to get on the cruise the first time (passport, or drivers license and birth certificate) and then you get your sign and sail card. To get back on the ship at any port you need your drivers license and your sign and sail card.

Personally I would feel safer out at sea the in the big city I live it. I can't wait till my cruise in December.

Above all, remember to have a good time!

YOU ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING BY GOING..WE CAN'T LET THESE HORRIBLE ACTIONS CONFINE US TO OUR HOMES...I AM ALSO FLYING FROM NY LAG AIRPORT ON THE 13TH OF OCT..I SPOKE TO MY TRAVEL AGENT ABOUT SWITCHING AIRPORTS AND SHE STRONGLY DISAGREED WITH ME..THE TIGHTEST SECURITY WILL BE IN NEW YORK..AND SHE WAS RIGHT..I WAS AFRAID BEFORE BUT NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT AND NOW THAT I HAVE SPOKEN TO PEOPLE WHO HAVE FLOWN OUT OF NEW YORK SINCE SEPT 11TH.SAID SECURITY IS SO TIGHT IT MAY TAKE EXTRA TIME TO GET TO YOUR PLANE BUT WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO IT IT COULD TAKE FOUR HOURS TO GET TO MY PLANE AS LONG AS EVERYONE IS CHECKED AND PROCESSED....PLEASE DON'T LET THIS TRAGEDY CHANGE YOUR PLANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOD BLESS

Another bonus (sad way to get it though) of the new heighten security on the airplanes is that lost luggage will be a thing of the past. Now they are making sure that all the luggage on the plane matches the people actually in the plane (so someone doesn't just check a bag and never get on). That means as long as you get on the plane your baggage will too.

As a person who has had her luggage lost many times, this is a welcome change of policy.

Check the web-page of the airline that you are going to fly on to see what their new security procedures are and the suggested time you leave for passing through them. Bestfares.com has a wonderful article on what to expect at an airport.

I sailed on Sept 16th (Carnival Paradise). Great flights and excellent time in the ship + ports. There is extra security in the airports/planes/ship, but that's a good thing. My plane landed 20 minutes earlier @ Miami. Same thing on my return. I
did not lost my luggages either which is a plus. Planes were empty and I had enough upper bin space to fit my carry on !!
