Is it easier to take our bags with us on the ship or have them brough on. I have been reading the reviews and some say do and some say don't. Will it save time and should we arrive at the ship early or will that not help. I know we will all stand in some kind of line from on time to another. Just trying to make it a little shorter.
Prior to the terrorist attacks you could carry on your own luggage so long as it fit through the x-ray machine however, since then Carnival has made a strict policy that unless the bag is smaller than those demensions an airline allowed for carry-ons, it WILL have to be checked. I watched many people insist that they would be able to get 'their' luggage through, one even going so far as to state they would either allow her to or she would not sail. I saw all of these people come back out through the line causing problems and hurting the flow of people to have their luggage checked. As for the woman that threatened not to go unless she was allowed to carry on all her huge bags. I saw her leave the terminal going back outside, I have no idea if she sailed or not but her luggage didn't go in with the passengers.
I too always take a carry-on and have some clothes in there to wear for dinner in case we don't get the luggage to the cabin yet, but I hate to have to lug too much, just carry-on whats comfortable for you to carry, and with the regulations they way they are, that shouldn't be a problem. Have fun.
The problem is that if you give your luggage to the porters and it doesn't make it on the ship for whatever reason (and make no mistake about it, this does happen), Carnival will not be held liable. They tell you that the porters are independent contractors and they can not be held responsible for the porters actions. Leaves the traveler high and dry.
