We are sailing on the Pride in February to the Eastern Caribbean. This ship departs out of Port Canaveral. Can anyone give us information on transportation options from Orlando and lodging tips. We have always sailed out of Miami, so this will be our first trip out of Port Canaveral. Any tips appreciated. Thanks!!!
We are going on the Pride in March. There is transportation from the Orlando Airport using shuttle service, or like us, you can rent an Avis car at the A/P. We are staying at the Radisson, Pt. Canaveral, and they have an Avis drop off there. The price for car is $40/day. The Radisson price ranges from $99 to $129.
We are sailing on the Pride in April - and have the same questions!! We are currently holding a room at the Radisson but are looking at the Best Western in Cocoa Beach (another 3 miles away). I have heard that there is nothing in the Port Canaveral area or near the Radisson so that is why we are checking into Cocoa Beach - we are a group of families who will be there for a day and a half prior to our cruise. If you get any info I would appreciate your sharing.
Hey Kathy, who told you there was nothing to do near the Radisson ? I have to tell you they were wrong.
First the Radisson has a great heated pool with tiki bar. They also have a bar inside and reataurant. They also have a convention center ...maybe something will be there when you are.
They have laundry facilities and you can get movies on the tv in your room.
Across the street is a Mcdonalds and post office. On one side there is a putt putt golf place and go carts. On the other side there is a Subway sandwich shop and a Kelseys pizzeria. There may be a couple of other small shops there. a little past that but still within walking distance is an adult superstore .
I find it arather relaxing place to stay. You don't have to leave if you don't want to.
no need to second guess each other on hotels. Both places are just as nice, cocoa beach just has more things to do, like ron jon's and more bars. For me going to NASA would be the best way to spend your whole day there, then come back to the hotel and rest up. you will need it for your cruise.
The hotels in cocoa are a little cheaper, and more choices are on offer.
hope that helps,
russell. - sjould know the area, worke on the carnival fantasy for 9 months.
Another vote here for the Radisson at the Port. Great resort, can't beat the convenience of dropping off your Avis rental, and the #1 best endorsement for a pre-cruise night: you can wake up with a great view of your ship from your window! (Be sure to request it!)
Happy cruising!
Space center visitors center is a great place to visit, especially for kids. It is included on most foreign Orlando tours so there will be a lot of different languages flying around . A bus takes you around the assembly area and out to the launch sites. Better if a shuttle is on the pad. Not sure what security is like now. The Raddison Mariner put into Port Canaveral just for the tour. Will take most of a day. The Space Center has a web site, not sure what it is right now. If you are in the area and have the time, definitely worth the effort.
