Default luggage security

I am going on my 1st cruise dec 2nd and i have read on here to make sure you use you luggage locks and for added security put cable ties on your bags. Question if i do all this and they are now searching bags are they going to break my locks and all or do they just have dogs sniff them?? This is for my checked luggage. Also do they search you personaly when you go onboard?? Like with a metal scanner or what, i have never flown and this is my 1st cruise so i am wondering, I want to take nail clippers to cut off the cable ties but don't want them to take them from me?? Thanks so much..

Default Re: luggage security

We always use cable ties, even before 9/11. They will not keep anyone out of your baggage if they want in, but you at least know someone has been in your luggage. Your checked bags can be x-rayed and subjected to drug/bomb sniffing dogs but I have a feeling that you will be called to the security office, or escorted there, if they wish to open your bags so that you can be present. My wife always has a pair of nailclippers in her carryone or purse and so far nobody has said anything. Of course I would not recommend you carrying one of those that has a 5" blade for cleaning your nails either! <G> As far as searches go you will have to go through a metal detector just like the one at an airport and those that fail to make it though will have the wand go over them. Trust me on this one as I can mever make it through one of those darn things without alram bells and whistles going off! Even the wand goes off on my neck and feet and sometimes if sensitive enough my arm due to surgically implanted steel. Simple explanations have always worked for me. Now the Atlanta airport wasn't so easy as they had me down to showing the scars before they believed me! <G>
