I will be taking the 3 day bahama cruise and need some advice. Am going with my friend and we want to know where the best and safest places are to shop in Nassau? Is it best to take a taxi? What about shore excursions? I've read about the Blue Lagoon trip and the Yellow Bird cruise. Also, do they have a formal night on the shorter cruises? What type of attire is expected on that night vs. the casual nights? Any other info on the Bahamas or Fascination would be great.
Michele, There are plenty of places to shop within walking distance of where the ship will dock. Stay in your group, keep your belongings in check and be alert. The area is very busy with tourists so you won't be alone. You get your cabs in front of the ship at the pier. There is some shopping on Paradise Island, however pricey, but you may want to go over there. Make sure to determine the fare - per person, one way at a time before you get in the cab. . But there is a neat aquarium there as well as a casino. I do not know if the straw market has been rebuilt since the fire, I'm sure others will let you know, or just search the boards for "straw market". There is most likely one formal night on your 3 day cruise. Most acceptable formal attire for women is from nice dress all the way to the nines. Men's attire is dark suit or tux. Casual nights in the dining room are scaled down. Resort casual - slacks, sleeved shirts for men, upscaled tops for women, sundresses. Resort casual T'shirts and shorts can be worn in the dining room for breakfast. The rules change however if you choose to eat at the buffet restaurant. Anything there as long as it is clean and your body is covered appropriately. Don't forget to pack a sweater, it can get chilly in the Dining room and Lounges. You are on the right track by asking on the boards for help. You will find plenty of info
Hi Michele, I did the Fascination Bahamas cruise in August and had a GREAT TIME! The ship is kept up very well and I wouldn't hesitate sailing her again!Yes there is a FORMAL evening...it was the second night while in port at Nassau. There was a mix of semi-formal to tuxes and evening gowns...I went middle of the road and wore a dark business suit and tie which was fine! As far as shopping...well I am not a shopper so can't comment there! I did do the Blue Lagoon Island tour for the afternoon and loved it! The beach areas are not crowded and there is plenty of white sand & crystal waters to just lounge and soak up the sun and swim! However, be aware there is a small gift shop, snack and cocktail bar and it is VERY pricy! Think the drinks were going for around $5 a pop for a can of beer and more for tropical drinks! I am SURE you will have a great cruise and fun time in Nassau whatever you choose to do. Feel free to email me if you want any more info.
Thanks for all the info. I leave in 3 weeks and am starting to get excited. One more question, how much spending money did you bring...to include paying for tips, drinks, taxis, and a few souvenirs? I'm not planning on buying large ticket items, but I'm not even sure where to begin as far as deciding how much $$ is needed. Thanks again.
