We sailed on the Fantasy 2 years ago, and we absolutely loved her! The Fantasy-class ships are our favorite ships! We love the big open area at the back of the ship near the seaview bistro, where you can sit along the railing and eat and/or drink. Everything in the way of bars, lounges, casinos, etc. are all on one deck. This is a wonderful ship, and a really nice 3 or 4-night getaway. We hope to sail the Fantasy again in the near future!!

While I've never taken ANY Carnival cruise previously, I've been reading up on the Fantasy in particular, since we're planning our first cruise on her (or any ship) this year. I've read some good, some bad "real people" reviews about her, but generally the buzz has been good.
I found most negative reviews occurred around the mid to late 90's as she approached her 10th birthday. I was concerned about comments like: "shabby, disappointingly worn, septic odor, dreadful service . . ." However, I later read about her complete refurbishment in 2000, following which I saw a distinct difference in the calibre of commentary.
I'm hoping her refurbished glow won't have worn too much by the time we first see her in August. The one constant about Fantasy and all Carnival cruises appears to be the ENTERTAINMENT an activities. As we're travelling w/four kids (8-12), we are definitely thrilled about that! :-)
We just got back in Feb from 4 day Bahama on Fantasy. This was my 5th cruise with Carnival. Also my shortest getaway. Did not know the ship had just been refurbished, but it was a beautiful boat. Why I have remained loyal to Carnival? The service. Why am I looking at booking my 2003 cruise with another cruiseline after Fantasy? The service.
Never have I been so disapointed with the lackluster, could care less, don't bother me attitudes. Its got me searching, and I think its time to jump ship. Dont know whether this was a fluke or not, as the other 4 were superb, but wrote survey on dissapointment to carnival and also sent them letter, and have heard nothing back. Very disappointed. I think they made some serious cutbacks after the 09/11 and having to lower prices. It showed. I was also teed off that they automatically took $ 89.00 off sail & signs for cabin, waiter -tipping! That was a first! Needless to say our group of 8 are considering other options. I you insist on going, see Iwade on the Lido deck bartending. He was superb!
