DOING ALASKA AUG.28TH ON SPIRIT, ANY TIPS ON SEATTLE?

HI! i HAVE ENJOYED READING THESE BOARDS. i HAVE BOOKED THE SPIRIT ON THE 28TH OF AUG TO SEE THE GLACIERS OF ALASKA. i AM GOING SOLO AND WOULD LOVE TO FIND OTHERS TRAVELING ON THIS CRUISE...EITHER ALONE OR NOT! i AM TRYING TO PLAN MY EXCURSIONS. i WILL BE STAYING IN SEATTLE A NIGHT BEFORE GOING TO VANCOUVER TO CRUISE. HAS ANYONE BEEN THERE? i WILL BE STAYING AT THE INN AT QUEEN ANNE. SUGGESTIONS? COMMENTS?

Hi Diane,
I too will be doing my first Alaska cruise on Aug. 30th from Vancouver, so can't really help with the excursions, there are so many good ones at each port, its getting harder and harder to decide. I bet you are having the same problem?? Lots of good information here, so just keep checking the boards and read reviews from returning Alaska cruiers soon, since the season just started.

In the meantime, you may want to post on the "meet on board" and see if you can find some of those other cruisers:

As far as Seattle goes and what to do, it all depends on what time you wil be arriving at your hotel. The hotel is very close to the Seattle Center which is where the space needle is. There is an Opera House a theater for plays and alot more there. If you arrive in Seattle early enough you reaaly should go to the Pike Place market. It is with pretty close to your hotel even walking distance. There are alot of large department stores ie.. Nordstroms, The Bon, and others. Not sure what you enjoy doing. Unfortunetlly the Mariners are out of town during your time in Seattle so the ballpark is out. Lots of really good resturants close to you also. Have fun

Pike Place market is great, and go walking along the street where the piers are. Maybe see the aquarium. DO NOT bother with underground Seattle, It's ok, but not worth the hype and a good book will give you more info without creeping around under the city. See the stores and stuff near pioneer square though, its nice there. This is silly since you are going on a cruise but the r/t ferry boat to Winslow and back is nice and the view coming into Seattle is great. On a sunny day it is one of my favorite things to do. If you like gorgeous parks the arboretum is wonderful and there is a japanese garden and tea room that is a neat experience.
