My wife and I are applying for our passports this up-
coming week and we are considering whether or not to get
a passport for our 6-year old daughter. I know that the
passports are good for ten years, but her physical
features are going to change so much over the next few
years, I have to wonder if I should wait on hers for now.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Aagglaser,
I think for the ease in traveling, I'd go ahead and just get her one, I think they expect that the pics will be different in a few years, but since 911 I wouldn't travel without one, and since you are getting them anyway, why not, just makes sense.
First rule of travel "get a passport". Second rule of travel "reread the first rule". My 5 year old and 2 year old grandchildren have had them for more than a year. There is no better form of ID .
We are currently filling out the forms for everyone in our family. Noticed that it said that if a child is 15 or younger, the passport is only good for 5 years.
Re: Re: Should we get a passport for a 6-year old?
My 2 grandaughters (8 and 4) just received their passports in readiness for an upcoming cruise. It will now be easier for the family to travel everywhere.
Go ahead and get the passport. Without one you still would need a certified birth certificate AND a photo ID issued by some goverment authority. Easier to get the passport. BTW, for age 16 and under I believe, they are only good for five years at a time due to how much they change. It is still worth it IMHO and necessary to travel to come countries. I have this sneaky suspicion that they will soon be required for any travel outside the USA in order to re-enter the USA. I can see the writing on the wall on this.
