Default Room Service Tipping

According to CCL:

"Other personnel, such as Bar and Room Service staff, may be tipped as service is rendered."

I though room service was part of the "Alternative Dining Service"...which is already included in the tipping guidelines ($0.75/person per day)

Also, if you do tip your room service staff when service is rendered, do you have to tip in cash?

Can someone shed some light on this?

thanks in advance.

Generally room service is delivered by a room service waiter or sometimes by your cabin steward. If by the latter, you could wait to tip him at the end (I do not). I generally
take out 2 singles when I call room service and that is what I give to whoever brings the order. Like most other things, if you tip at time of service the next time you will get good service. Bar staff , by the way, are taken care of with 15% gratuity added to each tab.

I also tip a couple dollars when room service is delivered. As Bill said they have always automatically tacked on a 15% tip for all bar service on every cruise I have always been on.

We pretty much follow Bill's room service tipping guidelines. If the order is elaborate (more than AM coffee and) we tip more.

Also, we get a "pound of singles" ($50 or $100 - depending upon the length of the trip) before we leave.

I'm still confused about the "alternatve dining service" and wish somebody would come up with an authoritative answer.

I tip a dollar or two...always in cash...I read somewhere that if you don't tip them, they get an attitude, and you get your next order very late, or sometimes not at all!!!
