Default Tell me what you think - Did you like the Spirit

Just curious, I will be going on the Spirit in January, with a group of 13. Is it easy to find way around the ship? Was the food good? Is it worth getting reservations in the new dining area at a charge?

Entertainment worthwhile?

Any information to volunteer would be grateful!!!

I'll give you a real answer.
I liked the Spirit. The layout of the ship is different from the Destiny and Fantasy class and I like it. In fact, I liked it so much, my next cruise is on the Carnival Pride.
The food in the dining room and lido deck was good. I'm sorry I can't help you on the supper club since I didn't eat there.

I went on the Spirit in December 2001. I loved the ship. The layout is great. Very easy to navigate. The only problem that I can find in the layout is that you have to go through the casino to get from one end of the ship to the other. The reason this is a problem? Because, I can not pass a slot machine without dropping something in and pulling the lever.().

The entertainment was pretty good. The show "Standing Room Only" was very good. They took songs from different broadway shows and performed them. I loved it. The other show, don't remember the name, was not that good. Some people really enjoyed it, I thought it was kind of hokey. To each his own. The comedians they had on board were really good. The midnight comedian, though, was always in a very small lounge at the bottom of the ship(Versailles Lounge). You had to get there early if you wanted to get a seat where you could see anything (some of the seats are actually to the side and behind the stage and there is a wall in the way).

As for the food. It is wonderful and plentiful. The La Playa Grille is a very good buffet with many choices. The Empire Resturant also has very good food. The waiters and busboys, however, do not do the normal dance rountines during the meals. All they do is dance to a couple of popular songs. No rhyme or reason to what they are doing. They could have left that part out.

The Nouveau Supper Club is absolutely worth every penny you will spend. I would not miss it if you can. The food is wonderful. I had the onion soup (wonderful), salad, porterhouse (cooked to perfection), grilled mushrooms to top the steak, loaded bake potato, and a flourless chocolate cake(it is to die for, do not miss it). There were other courses in there, but I can not remember what they were. The whole experience takes 2-3 to eat. It was great.

This ship is fantastic, and I would recommend it to anyone. Matter of fact, I am returning to the Spirit in 2003 for a cruise to Hawaii. I can not wait.

I hope this helped some.

Deb we havent been on the Spirit but we did sail the Pride (sister ship I think) and had a GREAT time. We found the layout easy to find your way around. Have Fun! We found the dining in the pay resturant wonderful and if the Spirit is as good.......well worth the charge.

You know thats right, I really hated that little path through the casino too. I had forgotten about it until now.

We were on the Spirit 12/01 and the triumph 12/99. Prefered the slightly smaller capacity ship (2100 vs 3000+). the ship was large enough to offer many choices for all meals dine rm or buffet but not totally overcrowded. Finding yr way around was reasonably easy. Casino transit was no problem for us, not big gamblers. We had a mid-ship cabin and probably would have prefered something futher aft for acess to the lido deck activities and buffet but thats us. Enjoyed shows but some repitition from our 12/99 Triumph cruise,

We spent the week of 9/11/2002 thru 9/18/2002 on the Spirit and it is a good ship. I will be posting a full review on the Cruisecrazies board within a couple of days--hopefully. We liked the ship so much that we have booked an 8 day southern caribbean in 3/2003 on it. As for the Supper Club--Nouveau--IMHO, don't waste your money!!!! Food in the Empire Restaurant was just as good and the service in the Empire was much better.

And why aren't you posting your review here? You don't work for cruisecrazies do you?

Jim, no I don't work for cruisecrazies. I think it will be long and I type with two fingers! So, I figured I would just have to type it once that way.

If you really want it, I'll post it both places. I am computer illiterate and have no Idea how to cut and paste. Probably will be early next week before I can get it done.

Loved it Deb, and loved the Nuveau Supper Club too.

My review is in the reviews here, under Denise LePage.

We just back from our cruise to Alaska onboard the Spirit. The ship is absolutly beautiful, although I can't say that the food was very good. Our dining room experience was not the best with our busboy and the food. As well as the Supper Club. My husband had the Porterhouse and said it was excellent. I, on the other hand, had the Stone Crab. The crab was "gritty" and the famous Joe's mustard sauce was not the Joe's mustard sauce. I have eaten at the original Joe's for many, many years. My mother had the crabs too and felt the same way. Her companion ordered the Lobster tail and "big" disappointment! Not what they show. He ended up with two small lob tails. This was a disappointment to all.

We all felt that the desserts which theses ships are so famous for were simply bland. I believe we lost weight while cruising.

Maybe you'll experience something grander than us. Maybe the Supper Club will have a fresher assortment.

The Ship is very easy to get around. Just walk around it once and you'll know every detail. Not to worry.

Enjoy your cruise!
