Jacquie, although this is the incorrect board for the question, Yes, Princess is very good about upgrades. The Grand was the only ship I have taken a guaranty chance with and we did just fine. Our category that we purchased only had one available cabin at the time we booked, and we were upgraded about 3 levels so it worked out great.

The Golden is the sister ship of the Grand and will be just plain HUGE. I did not care for the Personal Choice option (which we did not utilize) because it interferred with seating at the Late shows which we love. Missing 3 shows was because of overcrowding is not very satisfying. I hope you make out better. Cabin size is about 180SF for a regular balcony plus verandah space. Ask for robes and fresh fruit daily if you like. Princess has the best embarkation system going. Complete your documents and send them back before you cruise. Even order your tours in advance if you like. Their tropical night deck party at the stern was a blast.
Bon Voyage

Hi Jacquie,
There is no sure thing when it comes to upgrades, but at least you know you will get the catagory that you did guarantee, so I always say to book the catagory that you will be happy with and if you should by chance receive an upgrade, all the more better.

Here is a link to an good article that explains the upgrade process:

Hoping you get a great cabin in a good location :-)
