Just Back Carnival Legend

Back from 9/22 NY/Canada 11 days of pure bliss. i cruise arranged a fabulous cruise at a great price. Hadn't been on Carnival for over 10 years and found it to be fantastic and much improved. The food was the best and so was the entertainment. The cabin was well designed, standard 185 sq ft with balcony and a great value. Even supplied magnifying mirror and robes. Internet access was very fast, reasonable and plenty of computers available. Golden Fleece restaurant well worth the extra $25. Maitre'D very talented singer and staff offered good service and a fun time in the main dining room. Lido buffet very well set up with great variety of delicious food and many stations for short wait. Wonderful pizza & ice cream & frozen yogurt available 24 hrs. Full breakfast including omelettes available on deck until noon. The ship is very glitzy much like a Las Vegas hotel but it's very functional and exciting. Stabilizers are so efficient that you don't even realize you're on a ship. Many nooks and crannies with music for all tastes. Something for everyone. Loved it!

Re: Just Back Carnival Legend

I agree with you comments about the "Legend" completely. We sailed on the transatlantic cruise from England to New York last month, and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. This was our first cruise on Carnival, and frankly, we were not expecting too much, but were pleasantly surprised with the cabin, food, service, entertainment, shore excursions and the Golden Fleece restaurant. The decor was a little much, but after having cruised on the "Costa Atlantica", it didn't bother us much. We didn't have very rough seas, about 6-7 feet near Greenland and Iceland, but the ship sliced right through with barely a rock or roll.
I think that everyone who has booked the "Legend" is in for a real treat.

Hi Robert. I noticed that you cruised on the Carnival Legend and you mentioned John Heald, Carlo & Ralph. I was on the Carnival Legend for about month (I took the 12 day Northern Europe cruise & the 15 day Trans-Atlantic cruise, back to back) and became friends with some of the staff. I noticed you said that John would be leaving on Oct 17. How sad! Do you know if Carlo will be promoted to Cruise Director and take Johns place on the Legend?

Re: Just Back Carnival Legend

Amanda,
Carlos, (AKA Q-Tip), was promoted during the Trans-Atlantic to Asst. Cruise Director at the recommendation of John. He is remaining onboard the Legend as Asst. CD under the new CD Mark. Carlos will probably be getting his own ship within a year. There is much more to being a CD than just the "front room" where you see them. There is a huge amount of responsibility on their shoulders that occurs behind the scenes and Carlos is making sure he has all these abilities down perfect before he wants to venture on his own. Carlos is a smart young man and I am sure he will do very well. I've known him for awhile now and we talked about his future quite a bit while on the Legend and I am sure we will keep in pretty close touch throughout the coming years.

Re: Just Back Carnival Legend

I was on this same cruise and agree with much of what was said. This was my first cruise on Carnival ( I have been on about 10 cruises) and from comments on this board there were no real surprises.
I thought the entertainment was very mixed. The extravaganza shows were marvelous with good singers and dancers, costumes and sets. Much of the other entertainment was mediocre at best.
Likewise, the food in the main dining room ( Truffles) started off rather poorly prepared the first couple of nights. It seemed to improve and after the first couple of nights was very good most nights. I was disappointed in the desserts for the most part ( Probably for the best - I didn't gain too much weight).
The Golden Fleece restaurant was elegant.. service was excellent and food was well prepared . I especially the music and singing of the couple there.
The excersize facilities was great, the Lido Casual Eating dining area was excellent with great variety and spacious enough to handle the crowds). The staff in areas were courteous and went out of their way to be helpful.
If you use the Casino, be advised there is a 3% charge for buying chips or coins for the slots on your Sail & Sign card.
One warning - there was a long wait after customs- if you were planning on using taxi transportation. The lines were long and the wait was in the open subject to hot weather, no shade or water.
All in all, the good out weighed the bad.
