Default Needed: Eastern Caribbean Advice

My husband and I will be going on the the 11/30/2002 sailing of the Pride to the Eastern Caribbean. We are very active people and would appreciate any suggestions on shore excurisions.

We would like to go snorkeling somewhere once and see many options...any suggestions for the best ones. Also, does anyone have any input on what the rates tend to be. I imagine they vary quite a bit...just looking for some idea.

We are not huge into laying on the beach all day, so we are looking for other alternatives. I'd love to hear your suggestions!

There may be some snorkeling at Salt Cay off Nassau, but the Atlantic may be a little cool. This is their off season. First, go to Carnival.com and send them an email requesting that they fax a copy of their ship's tours to you if you have fax access. I just did this last night, and received my fax this noon (13 pages for Western itinerary on the Legend). Other than Salt Cay, you can arrange tours or "things to do" on your own at St. Thomas and St. Martin. One of the best tours although pricey is the Champagne Catamaran tour at St. Thomas which includes lunch. You will get a beautiful view of St. John too. Coki beach is right next to Coral World as well. Reviews state that snorkeling is pretty good their. Personally I don't snorkel, so I can't judge first hand. I like to plan different things in different places. If you don't get to go to Salt Cay, take a taxi to the Altantis Resort and Casino and pay for a tour of the Dig. It is really interesting. You don't need a tour to do this. At St. Thomas, a half day Jitney tour should cost about $40 per couple with stops at many picturesque sites. The driver will drop you off downtown at Charlotte Amalie if you wish to fulfill your shopping adventures. I suggest touring in the morning as the streets will be full of cruise shoppers then. At St. Martin just walk to the Port terminal building and out front you will find vans ready to give you a tour. A Half French/ Half Dutch country tour is very nice. If you really want to get into sailing, sign up for the America's Cup race. There are many rave reviews about that one. Again, take the tour (sail) in the morning and return for lunch, then you have time to investigate the downtown area or do a taxi tour.
Bon voyage

Just returned from the Pride yesterday. St. Thomas has an Atlantis Submarine for $70, Snorkel Expedition for $69, Buck Island Sail & Snorkel for $46, Island & Catamaran Sailing trip that last 4 hrs. for $55 and also certified Dives and Scuba Adventures for $55 & $59. There are also Island tours that range from $31 to $49. St. Maarten has the America Cup Regatta for $82, Scuba Diving $66, Explorer Cruise & Island Tour $59, Golden Eagle Catamaran $69, See & Sea Island Tour, French St. Martin $45. In Nassau they take you to their private Island and you have a barbecue (free) on the beach plus other activities. I really enjoyed this. Sit on top of the boat so you can see all around the Island. There are hammocks for relaxing in the shade while enjoying the beautiful water and white sand.
