Default Destiny Jan 19, 03 First timers

Hi all,
My wife and I are going on the Destiny on January 19, 2003. This is a first time cruise for us and are very interested in any information on the ship or cruise lines or destinations on this itinerary. Also if there are any other first timers going on this cruise. Always nice to know someone before hand. Please write back. Thanks

I have sailed on Triumph which is in the Destiny class. They are certainly beautiful ships and she was by far our favorite to date. I've only been on a couple of the islands you are going to. Puerto Rico depends on how much time you have before departing, visit the forts. The ship is docked right there in town and you can drop off your luggage and even get on the ship for lunch and explore or walk into Old San Juan for sightseeing and shopping.

On St Thomas, we did the St John tour to Trunki Bay. It is a beautiful beach with facilities. Later that day we went shopping In Charlotte Amalie. Other than liquor we didn't buy much. We felt prices are mostly comparable to the States unless you go for big ticket items where you would save is tax. We aren't big shoppers other than just browsing for something unique.

As for the rest of the islands maybe some one else can help you there. Otherwise I would go into goggle.com and do a search there for some tours and general advice on each island. I was going to sail this iten on Destiny in April and started searching the internet but we changed our mind and am going to the Mexican Riveria instead.

My family loves Carnival, we always had good food and great service. The shows are also nice. You will have a great time. Happy Sailing!

st thomas we got off the ship walked to k-mart and brought back 2 cases of beer and a case of coke. then we went on the kon tiki booze cruise ...it was ok, if you snorkle watch for the black sea urchins they are all over the place at the beach stop, it was a ok booze cruise the wives all shopped while the guys went. we got off the ship in martinique bought some bottled water and got back on, employees on the ship told us the people were rude and there beaches are black sand and there wasnt much to see....people that went into town agreed with the crew, we could have skipped that stop. Barbados....what a great time we shopped at the pier early in the day then took the jolly roger party boat . it is a pirate ship that was a blast , loud music , walking the plank and lots of rum punch, after that it was nice to have a day at sea to relax . Aruba was the best. we rented jeeps for $40 , if you go thru carnival it is $79 per person and have to follow their carivan ...we drove to baby beach (great snorkeling ) , then to natural bridge the roads are rough which made the ride in the jeeps much more fun , then drove to california lighthouse, next to the caymans it is one of the most beatuiful islands i have visited. the last day at sea was good but everone was kind of mellow because it was the last day. it was a great cruise loved all the stops except martinique the casino was great to all 13 of us in our group on the ship as well as the ones in san juan almost paid for our trip.

Hey DLuke,
I think you will enjoy the Destiny as your first cruise. She was our third a few years ago when the ship was a month old. Had a wonderful week. It went to the Western Caribbean that week. We are going on her sister the Victory Jan 19. We'll wave as we head out to sea together. Really enjoyed the gym and spa areas. Nothing like a little sweat to start the day off right and work off a little midnight buffet. Where is your cabin?
Really enjoy Carnival's production shows. We have been on all the major lines and I still like their entertainment the best. I finally broke down and bought a tux for our last cruise. You may think of getting one if you don't have one. Cheaper than renting . Mens Wearhouse has some nice tuxes. I know many don't wear them, but they do look good and the ladies love them! Makes for a nice picture for next years' Christmas cards.
Have a great time. We await our documents.
