We booked our cruise directly with Carnival and was given an upgrade...can additional upgrades be given after you have already booked, and if so, how can I find out. Also, we booked with another couple, does it ever happen that one couple gets upgraded and the other doesn't? We would all like to be close - next door to one another at this time.
In my experience, additional upgrades may happen, but not always. It depends on the ship, the time of sailing, and how experienced your travel agent is.
When I sailed on the Destiny in Dec. 2001, the ship wasn't full by September, so Carnival ran a special in San Juan to attract passengers... something like $500 per cabin. That filled up the ship. My wife and I were upgraded automatically from an interior cabin to an outside cabin with a sofa, since the people who bought the special were put in the interior cabins. I have always booked travel through a travel agent, so I cannot comment on booking directly with Carnival. A good travel agent (with good negotiation skills) may be able to get you the same category cabin, but on a higher deck. If you book in a group or are a returning guest, that may help, too.

You can still get higher upgrades. However if you booked specific cabins with an upgrade built in, you will probably stay as you are. If you booked a guarantee cabin, you could go higher, or lower back to your original gty. level. Yes it is entirely possible that one group gets an upgrade and the other does not. While you said you booked with another couple, did you mean that you booked and paid for all 4 under the same bookking number? If so, you both will all probably get the upgrade. If it is booked separately, then it is possible you won't.
