We sail the Conquest out N.O. in early January. I need a little help, the Conquest sails at six p.m., when can we begin boarding, what is the best time to try to board??? On another board a reviewer mentioned the parking lot at the port filled up early in the day and that he had to park at an expensive hotel lot. Is this a usual occurrence at the port in N.O.? If so when do you suggest we arrive at the port to get into the port lot. Any other tips re sailing out of N.O would be very welcome
We sailed out of N.O. on the Inspiration, which is smaller than the Conquest. Also before 9/11. We could board at l:30, and I recommend that you try to do so. We got there around 3:00 or 3:30 and had no problem getting in the fenced parking lot at the pier, but since there will be more passengers you probably should arrive earlier. Our car was safe when we returned, so that should not be a factor.
We have sailed out of NO twice and will be headed out on the Conquest Dec 29th. We have always parked our Suburban in the fenced parking lot right at the ship. We always arrive around 11:00am for a 4pm departure and they usually let us start boarding about 12:30pm the last time (last Thanksgiving) Remember that the Conquest is a much larger ship, so that parking lot probably will fill quickly. However, I did read from a former cruiser that the HIlton Hotel parking lot gave a discounted parking price from $20.00 a day to $10.00 a day for one cruise. I do not know if that is for all cruises. You have the Riverwalk right there, if you want to park to get a spot and then kill some time before checking in. The porters are always right there to take your luggage and are GREAT! I usually only carry one my one pilots' bag. We have never had any problem with security in that parking lot. And it is very convenient after the cruise is over, so it is worth the extra wait time for us. Have a GREAT TRIP!!!
We arrived at the New Orleans terminal around 11:45. By the way we were on the December 1-8 sailing, so this was just recently. A line had already been formed. Actually there were 2 lines. Didn't matter which one you got in as half the line went to one group of agents while the other half of the line went to the other half of agents. When we showed up, they were passing out fliers that said something to the effect of that by being early they were still going to let us board early, but to not go to our rooms until after 1:30 as they were still cleaning them and getting them ready for the next group. It also said that all other public places would be open including the Lido restaurant where they had buffet lunch set up. This did not include the casino (though you could walk around in it) nor the carnival shops (have to be closed in port).
Was it long or short we have a suite and are VIP Check In, We are sailing on the 12th of january if the Norwalk is all clreaed up . I am just wondering what time to get there to get on the ship, and what time they will let you board.
Again, I can only tell you about the time I was there (around 11:45). There was no line for the Skippers Club from what I could tell. It was off to the side of where everyone else was checking in in a little office. They let us board as soon as we went through the lines. I don't know how early they let people start getting on. It was happening when we arrived.
