What time does departure usually take place?
We are sailing on the Fascination on Jan 10 - 13. Our plane doesn't leave until 6:35 so we have a lot of time to visit Miami. We called MIA and they said that we can't check our bags until 4 hours prior to our flight. My question is when do you depart the ship and does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do with our luggage and what to see in the short time that we have?

Often the cruise line will offer a land tour for after disembarkation. You may want to consider taking it. Details will be found on board ship. Your luggage will stay right with you on the tour bus. You will also be dropped at the airport when the tour is over. Usually the ship is empty by about 10-10:30 a.m. depending on customs clearance and the number of passengers on board.
Bon Voyage

We just sailed on the Victory from Miami (Dec. 1 - 8, 2002). We exited the ship at 10:30 AM and our flight home to Boston was at 5:45 PM later the same day. American Airlines let us check our bags at 11:30 AM anyway. No problem. Maybe your airline is different.

We didn't want a post-cruise tour in Miami as we'd been there plenty of times before. Instead, we ate a leisurely lunch at the airport restaurant that is in the airport hotel. (I forget the hotel's name). You can walk there easily while staying inside the Miami airport. That restaurant is not crowded and very pleasant.
