We just took the 3 day Baja cruise out of L.A.(2 adults, 2 children)and were pleasantly surprised after having read some reviews of Carnival. Although it is sort of like the Circus Circus of the cruise lines, it was better than we thought it was going to be (although still not on par with Royal Carribean for instance). The service was very good and the ship was clean. The ship decoration was somewhat tacky, and when the elevator rang on a floor, the ding was like a large bird getting choked. Boarding took a long time but debarkation was quite fast. The inside cabin with 2 twin beds(we put the beds together) was definitely adequate. The TV needs to have more movies and did not have a shipcam channel. The room steward was excellent. The Las Vegas style shows (especially the first one) were surprising good. The food was probably the weakest link in the cruise. The meals in the main dining room were good to just okay, and the last meal was downright disappointing (cold tasteless fettaccini, tasteless steak, and the veal parmegian tasted like a frozen meal). The desserts were good however. This is a good cruise to take if you want to give your kids a taste of the cruise experience, can get it at a good price, and don't care about the port visit(s). I wouldn't however take a cruise like this with just my wife-I'd take another cruise line on a different cruise.
