Are there any rental car pickup/dropoff areas new the Port of New Orleans? We trying to get close to the port so we don't have to take a cab from the airport rental car location.
I did some research on this. Avis on Canal st will offer you a free shuttle to the port when you drop off your car. Get a hotel that is close to Avis and a hotel that will offer free shuttle from the airport.

We will be coming into the port of New Orleans on Royal Caribbean....can you rent a car there at the port or do you have to go to the airport? We would appreciate any advice folks could share with us. We will be coming in from a transatlantic cruise in November.

PS also if anyone has done this cruise from Barcelona to New Orleans we would love any tidbits you could share; we have never done one before and wonder about the weather, ports, etc.....
You can't rent right at the port. The closest to the port is Hertz. Avis is usually who I drop off at these days. Enterprise is possible and I think also Budget. They will usually shuttle you to the ship if they have anyone in the office that is available.
The downtown locations have limited hours, especially on weekends, so you would want to verify that they will be open when you need them.
