Default Bahamas Excursions

We just got back from an awesome time on the Triumph in the W. Caribbean and are now thinking about going again later this spring. We are thinking about a 4 night to the Bahamas on the Fascination (I think that's the one, I get confused!). Heard mixed reviews about the Bahamas. Went there on a 4 day Disney cruise, but only went to Nassau (not Freeport, too, b/c we did Disney's private island). When we went to Nassau, we did the basic history tour (we had a one year old who did great in the backpack and knew we would do the beach on Disney's island). Now that our daughter is older (will be almost 3), we want to do some more active tours or beaches. In the W. Caribbean, we really enjoyed the StingRay city sandbar tour - it was AWESOME - and our daughter loved the sting rays. I've heard that Nassau has something with stingrays - has anyone done that? If so, how was it? Are the waters shallow (under 5 feet)? If it was good, is it good to book through Carnival or would it be easy to do it ourselves - taxi etc.? We also would like recommendations about nice beaches or beach excursions. On the last cruise, we like Playa del Sol in Cozumel - we took the taxi and then paid to use their facilities. The beach was clean, chairs were incl., we rented an umbrella, and no harrassment from local sellers once we got on the beach (just the waiters, which we didn't mind). If we do the beaches, we would love beauty and not too crowded and have chairs and possible umbrella rentals etc.

Any help from past cruisers would be appreciated. Also, any tips on the Fascination would be great.

Jodi

Jodi,
In my opinion you wouldn't be missing anything in Freeport. No comparison to Nassau. In Nassau go to the Atlantis and take your child to the digs. It is the most beautiful collection of aquariums with tons of fish, shark, stingray etc. It is done great. If you go in the evening it is free...during the day there is a charge. Don't do Blue Lagoon Island..total rip off nowadays. It used to be a great place to go, but now they don't give you enough time there on the beach. And they do the herding cattle thing getting you back to the ship. We had to sit on the floor on the boat because they overloaded the boat that took us back. We did get half our money back, but what a crock!
When I was in Cozumel we took a taxi to the most beautiful beach with a pool, restaurant, the pool had a swim up bar and jacuzzi. They had some water sports and they would serve you food and drinks on the beach (of course there was a charge for that). There was no charge to use the beach or pool/jacuzzi. The food was outstanding!
If you want to see the brochure or a few pics that we took, email me and I'll send you all the info. I cannot wait to go back there (hopefully 10/03, haven't booked yet). The taxi ride there was like $10 for 4 of us. The beach is called Nachi-Cocom. I'm sure you and your family would love it.
