Default Very Very Important News for Conquest Travelers

A reliable source has informed me that due to water levels in New Orleans (and the position of those electrical wires at the bridge) that the Carnival Conquest will NOT be leaving or arriving from Julianne pier in NOLA.

There will be buses waiting for those arriving at the airport and there will also be buses waiting at Julianne (Sp) pier to take you to Gulf Port, Mississippi. The buses will also bring you back upon your return.

NOTE: They are saying that the last bus will depart NOLA at 3. If you arrive after this, you will need to find your own transportation.

This is beginning THIS Sunday and will continue for the next SIX weeks.
Please contact your travel agent if you are on the Carnival Conquest during the next 6 weeks.

Carole is correct. It has been officially released by CCL that they are moving the ship to Gulfport at least for a few months until the water level goes down and/or they move those darn overhead power lines. Anyone booked contact your TA immediately. They are offering shuttles to the new port from NO.

Effective Sunday, 3/9/2003 - CARNIVAL CONQUEST Shifts to Gulfport, Mississippi

We have made a change in the homeport for the Carnival Conquest from New Orleans to Gulfport, Mississippi effective this Sunday, March 9, 2003. We can no longer safely operate the ship from the Port of New Orleans due to the rising water levels in the Mississippi River, combined with low hanging power lines down river from New Orleans. This change will be effective for at least the next six weeks.

We are making the following options available for our guests to join the ship in Gulfport (travel distance is about a one hour and fifteen minute drive from New Orleans):

1. Drive to Gulfport: Guests should proceed to the pier in Gulfport and drop off their baggage. After dropping off baggage, guests will be directed to the nearby Grand Casino where parking will be available for $10 per day. Transportation will be provided from the Grand Casino to the pier beginning at 1:00 PM.

If guests will be using private motorcoach service to Gulfport, arrival must be scheduled for no earlier than 1:00 PM. Please understand that there is very limited seating available in the pier area.

Directions from the New Orleans area:
- Proceed on Interstate 10 East to the Highway 49 (Gulfport exit).
- Go south on Highway 49 about 8 miles until the intersection of Highway 90.
- The entrance to the port is clearly marked from that point.

2. Flying to New Orleans on Sunday: Guests should see the Carnival representative in the baggage claim area upon arrival. Complimentary motorcoach transportation will be provided between the New Orleans airport and Gulfport.

3. Staying in New Orleans Area Hotels Before the Cruise/Local Guests That Elect Not to Drive to Gulfport: Complimentary motorcoach transportation will be provided from the New Orleans cruise terminal to Gulfport beginning at 11:00 a.m. The last bus will depart at 3:30 p.m. After the cruise, guests can elect transportation back to the New Orleans cruise terminal or the New Orleans airport.

Our reservations department is currently calling all of our guests to be sure this information is received and to assist with any additional questions. In order for us to anticipate the motorcoach requirements, we will need to know if our guests:

1) Will be driving (or using private motorcoach service) to Gulfport;
2) Will be flying into New Orleans on Sunday (for guests that purchased independent air transportation); or
3) Will need transportation from the New Orleans cruise terminal to Gulfport.

We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. However, we were forced to make this change to ensure the comfort and safety of our guests. We look forward to welcoming all of our valued guests aboard the fabulous new Carnival Conquest for an outstanding 7-day adventure.

Wow! Thanks for the update. This saves us about $30 for shuttles! They're offering them for free now! I was really looking forward to the ship cruising on the Mississippi though.

MOB,
Yes, it certainly could last longer. It all depends on the water level of the Mississippi and of course this power company fulfilling their obligations about removing these lines. So long as there is a large snow melt and rainy conditions in the Mississippi basin, (which is basically everywhere between the Rockies and the Appalacians) you will have high water levels and possible flooding.

Just what would you want to be compensated for. You still get your full cruise, there is no need to change flight or hotel accommedation. In fact you are getting a free scenic tour of the ride from nola to gulf port.

MOB,
First drop the caps please as it is hard to read. Also, I see no way they will give any compensation as you are not losing out on anything, in fact they are giving free shuttles to the ship which they weren't prior to this.

Ok, I know that this message was primarily for the Conquest, however we are sailing on the Inspiration on March 23, 2003, and our last port is New Orleans. Does this mean that we are not going to be able to make this stop? If anyone knows, could you please let me know?

Thanks!!!

The Inspiration is not as tall as the Conquest and there have been no changes that I know of in it's route.

I am booked on Conquest 4/6/03. Just wondering how the loading and unloading of the cattle went this weekend?I'll bet it was nightmare. I read somewhere where the mayor of New Orleans was upset about Carnival going to Gulfport and would correct the problem ASAP. Does anyone think the Conqust will be back in New Orleans by 4/6?

I called Carnival and they said Conquest would return to New Orleans 4/27 but it will be determined by river level so it could be sooner or later than the date mentioned

By 4/6 - NO WAY!!! Water levels on the Mississippi River will make it impossible for the Conquest to return to NOLA by then...they will be lucky to make it back there before May 1st. Entergy (the electric company responsible for the electrical wires that cross the river) has had 3 years to correct the problem but they chose not to, so now NOLA and Carnival are paying the price. jmho

Excuse me but they are not giving us anything. If they change the port they have to get you there. All they have given me is a pain in the BUTT. Because of this change I will probably miss my flight home and the only thing they can tell me is you should have made your flight later. Sure I can change the flight but it will cost me another $1000 to
$2400. Anyone know how long it will take to get off the ship and on my way.
