Clean, older ship. Good size cabins. Food on this ship was much better than we had previously on carnival imagination in 1997, and we have no complaints, not even at Lido buffet, almost everything tasted great. We were very surprised. Basically, this is a party boat, expect everyone to be drinking. Daily drink specials pretty good, don't get the souvenir glass, just the $2.95 drink special. Service was good all around. You will have a great time, especially if you go and relax, take your time, and enjoy the ship. Bon Voyage.

We were on the Sensation in Feb. and had a great time! It was our first cruise and the only complaint I had was that it was too short! The food in the dining room was outstanding, as was the service. We had late seating in the Fantasy dining room. The food in the grill was typical buffet fare for the most part, but always hot and fresh. I did see a lot of chair saving on the Lido deck. The comedians were great (well, 2 out of 3 anyway!), and the shows were very good. It seemed like there was always something going on, hairy chest contest, ice carving, Survivor at Sea, Newlywed/Not-so-Newlywed game, bingo, art auction, trivia games, casino, etc. It was hard to decide what to do. The ship is a little older, so I guess it is not as shiny or modern as other ships. I did notice some stains in the carpet and the furnishings in our cabin should be replaced soon, but it didn't affect my cruise at all. Everyone on the crew that we encountered was friendly and helpful. They always had a smile. I would recommend taking the stairs as often as possible. The elevators seemed to run a bit slow and besides it helps burn off the calories! We enjoyed the ports, although the stay in Grand Cayman was too short. I wonder if the tender line is always an hour long there? I had worried about making the last tender at 1:15 (we left port at 2), but when we arrived at the dock at 1:00 the lines for tenders were VERY long. Also confusing about wich ship's line was wich.

OK, that's my opinion on the Sensation, sorry it ot a bit long winded! Enjoy!

Sensation is great! Think of her condition as experienced elegance. Wear a hat if you're out on deck while in port--seagulls. Try the goatcheese pizza in the pizzeria, the mushroom, also. You'll have a great time and I'm jealous.

The Sensation was our first cruise back in February 2003. We had an excellent time! I would recommend the ship to anyone. It is a little older, but kept very clean. Staff was friendly. Port of calls were awesome too. Grand Cayman was too short tho! All in all, we had a wonderful time and are ready to cruise again. Have fun!

I will be traveling on the Sensation end of May (5-26-03) and LOVED all your comments!

Have read some posts that make you think the people have never had a fun day in their lifes. We are ready to have some fun!!

Will be going to stingray city in GC with Nativeway. Have heard that the ship tour is large and they just dump you. Hope we made the right choice.

Bob, the greatest advantage of booking through the ship is that they guarantee you won't miss the tender back. Make sure you get back to the pier at least a half hour before sailing. Those tender lines can be quite long, especially in the heat. Have some water handy.

And make sure to order a drink from Neringa. She'll serve it to you with a free wink.

I will keep that in mind Steve.. The boat from nativeway is supposed to be back @ 12:45 local time is 11:45 ship time (It leaves @ 10am local time 9 ship time), so I think we will just go back on board at that time and not be waiting in line @ 1:30!!

Would hate to miss the ship.

Every cruiseline has a ship thay they consider 'special'. The Sensation is Carnivals. It is known as a happy ship and most of the staff have been onboard her for many, many contracts as they request her. She seems to get mostly great reviews from all who sail on her. I know she is special to us as we sailed on her in Sept 96 for our first cruise. Because we loved that cruise so much we are almost at two dozen cruises now.

I'm glad to read SO many nice reviews of the Sensation. I'm sailing with a group of friends from a *low-carbing* board next Feb. (NO Dieting allowed!! lol) Some of the group have never cruised before, and I was a bit nervous about recommending & booking an older ship. After discussing our needs/wants with my TA's - two of them recommeded the Sensation. Looks like she's a nice choice for our group!

It's no secret that Sensation was and remains my maritime love. In fact, a 10 inch model of her sits atop my CRT.

I cannot imagine a better ship for a first cruise experience. The staff alone justify that confidence. I cannot say enough nice things about the ship and the folks who work aboard her.

Of course, I'd probably say that about any first cruise ship. But my biases for Sensation are biases of experience. I hope I see her again, at least in passing, on next September's cruise.

Steve- Where are you going on your next cruise? And what ship? Just curious. We were on the Sensation when you were. We are also looking to book another cruise in the future, but not sure what one to do! So many choices

Sunny, I knew you and DebbieDean, another cruisemate, were aboard. I met Debbie, but never met you. You must have seen me, at some point. There's a pretty good description of me built into "The Obsession: A First Cruise Story." I'm posting it chapter by chapter under the People forum of this website. It started out as a review, but turned into story about a man having a love affair with a ship--strictly Platonic, I promise. Read it. At some point, you'll say "I saw him!"

Remember the ship that was moored with her nose out to the left of Sensation at Cozumel? Chris and I are booked on that one, The "Enchantment of the Seas." At the time we saw her in Coz, we had no idea we'd be booking another cruise this soon. But, it turns out that there's a cruise that panders to Chris's hobby aboard that ship. She'll attend classes while I hoist glasses.

We'll leave Ft. Lauderdale on September 15. September 16, Key West. September 17, Cozumel (again), September 18, Belize. September 19, at Sea and around the eastern tip of Cuba. (Another chance to vituperate Castro) Sept 20, debark

I'm really looking forward to it. I've never been to Key West, or Belize and I stayed aboard Sensation the first time in Coz. Belize is home to the howler monkey, several species of parrot, anteaters, not to mention the JC lizard. There's still time to book, if any of those creatures sound intriguing. It would be nice to meet another Cruisemate.

Steve

Great ship, very clean for it's age. Awesome staff George the Greek who runs the Fantasy dining room is a super fun guy he will keep you well fed and in stiches. My wife and I sailed on her last December we are going on the Fascination this Easter weekend to Nassau.

Hi Steve! I wondered what happened to your review. I will go look for it right now! Enchantment of the Seas next!? I have a picture of her in port at Coz. My BF's parents have sailed on her twice. They love the ship and from the pictures it looks beautiful. I am so jealous!! We are taking about booking another, but it won't be until next year sometime. We may even get together with our former tablemates from the Sensation and try a new ship and itinerary. I would love to see Belize. I am a huge parrot buff and it would be so neat to see them in the wild. I know you will have a great time!

Bobh....We booked with Nativeway also. It was fantastic. Be sure to take water proof cameras. Don't stress too much about the times and the tenders. I may be wrong, but if the last tender leaves at 1:15, the line will still be at least a half hour long. Plus, Eldon and Sharon have been doing this for a long time and they depend on repeat and word of mouth advertising to stay in business. They will get you to the ship on time.

Thanks so debbie dean.... We are planning on having a great time!!!

I think we are going to go to nachi cocom (I think that is right), which is near Playa sol on Cozumel. I have heard that Playa was always full and that nachi was much more relazed.

Maybe we should be looking at going on one of the 3 reef snorkel tours. But a little relaxation is always good.

Hi, Debbie. I took some pictures of Enchantment at Coz, too. I was intrigued by that flying saucer looking thing on top. I guess that's a feature of all the RCCL Vision Class ships. It's a bar with a panoramic view. Looks like a great place for a departure party.

When Chris asked me to research the cruise, I told her it was the ship across the water from us at Coz and showed her the picture--what I caught of it anyway. I was sitting when I took the picture, so most of what I got was the deck rail of Sensation. But the Viking Crown Lounge is visible. And, no, I can't wait to go. Chris booked it with no encouragement needed from me. I think she's over her life-long seasickness!
