Default Asking questions about your health

Has anyone heard anything about Carnival asking about flu symtoms prior to boarding?
Someone at work said they read that some had their temperature taken. I don't think any of the cruise lines are going to that extreme, are they?

4/24/03 - Important Information Regarding Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS)

Carnival Cruise Lines recognizes that recent SARS outbreaks are a cause for concern.

Our shoreside medical experts are in regular contact with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and we are monitoring the situation closely. Each ship’s management and medical team are being provided with regular updates and advice on monitoring for SARS symptoms and appropriate actions.

In the interest of extreme caution, Carnival Cruise Lines has implemented the following requirements for guests:

1. All guests embarking on a cruise will be required to fill out and sign a brief questionnaire. Guests who fit the below criteria, which is addressed in the questionnaire, will be denied boarding:

A. Guests who have lived, visited or transited through Hong Kong, China, Vietnam or Singapore within the past 14 days.

B. Guests who have had personal contact within the past 14 days with an individual diagnosed with SARS.

2. Guests who have lived, visited or transited through Toronto, Canada, within the past 14 days will be subject to further questioning and medical screening, including having their temperature taken, by a medical professional at the pier. All guests in this category will be allowed to board the vessel solely at the discretion of the medical professional conducting the screening.

3. Guests who have had personal contact with an individual who has traveled within the past 14 days to Hong Kong, China, Vietnam or Singapore will be subject to further questioning and evaluation by a medical professional at the pier. Those guests will be allowed to board the vessel solely at the discretion of the medical professional conducting the screening.

Any guest denied boarding under any of the above scenarios will be offered the option of a future cruise credit applicable to any departure valid for two years from the date of boarding denial or a full refund, including air transportation costs.

Carnival Cruise Lines is not currently accepting new or returning employees from certain countries of concern and/or employees are subjected to the same criteria as outlined above.

Additional information on SARS can be obtained at the CDC web site: www.cdc.gov.

We at Carnival Cruise Lines appreciate the cooperation of all our guests on this important matter.

We had to fill out a piece of paper asking if we traveled to China/Hong Kong area and Canada or if we had been in touch with anyone that had traveled there recently. We filled it out while getting our sign and sail cards just after going through security...it took 2 seconds and I didn't see anyone having their temperature taken.

Hi all! It sounds as if all the Cruise Lines are covering their butts regarding SARS. You better cover yours too, if they want to take your temperature (hee-hee). An interesting aside--there is not a single documented case of anyone having contracted SARS working at or passing through the Toronto airport!

Regards, Tim
