Can't answer the second but there are several docks "in town" and several outside town (plus the leftovers tender. Last time we were in Cozumel, Celebration was docked accross from us at the outside of town docks.
In cozumel it is either the Puerto Maya pier or the International Pier. They are right next to each other. They have a brand new shopping area right at the pier that is very nice. It was not there in August on our first trip to cozumel, we went back in Febuary and wow!
Downtown is about a 5 min taxi ride or 2/3 mile walk.
Last year there were 3 piers. I know of one that was a few miles from downtown and one that is in the middle of downtown and the other I am not sure of.
You will not use the pier that is right downtown. That is for smaller ships and ferries and tenders. As CCL helped pay for the newest pier with all the shops plan on that being the one you will be docking at. In Calicia there is but one pier.

The International pier is the best location, as far as I'm concerned. Its right there where all the new shopping is. Make sure you take the manned bicycle ride from the ship to the end of the pier..its 50 cents a person, I believe, and good fun...long walk otherwise.
When we were on the Jubilee last Sept, we docked at the other pier, further down from town. If you shop, you'll take a cab from there to where all the shopping and sightseeing is. You're closer to Chankanaab Park from this pier tho.
A fun inexpensive way to tour Cozumel is to rent a Jeep (from the pier) for 50.00., and give yourself a self guided tour of the entire island. You'll pass ancient ruins, some of which are a mere 5.00 to enter. The backside of Cozumel hosts many beautiful rocky near desserted beaches. Many many photo ops on this private excursion. We always stop at Chankanaab Park for snorkeling and hours of fun, as you've read in my post on your other thread. We highly reccomend renting your own Jeep, and self exploration...you can't get lost!
When is your cruise again? We sail this coming Monday on the Celebration! Same intineary.
At Calica...theres one dock and its a rock pit...you have to take a cab into Playa to do anything. Hope for a docking directly in Playa, so as to save cab fare...quaint little town...you'll enjoy it! Remember to stop in at Senor Frogs!
We leave on the Celebration on June 2nd. Our very first cruise. I have been trying to plan our own excursions while in port. We want to do Chankanaad Park and Carlos and Charlies while in Cozumel and probably just shop in Calica. Thought about taking a taxi to Playa Del Carmen. Are there usually taxes at every pier? What about in town?
Thanks for all the responses.

The CCL ships do dock at the pourta maya pier. it is only used by CCL and other carnival corp ships. from there take a cab into town, only 5 per cab, good for 4 people. its about a 10 minute ride in.
Calica, you will dock at what i like to call the "sand pit" its about 10/15 mins from playa de carmen, its aa short ride really. its a very nice place, much quiter than cozumel. you will see the difference when you get there. the beach there is amazingly clear.
