Default Calling Home ?

Hi everyone....

I was hoping someone could help me out with.. I was told by my cell phone company that I would not get service out on the seas or in Mexico....

So I am assuming that there are phones available on ship they are just expensive right ? How expensive ? I am going to be calling home several times whilst I am gone so I need to find out the best way to do so.....
Thanks
Jayne

Jayne,

Yes, there are phones in each stateroom. Calling Ship to shore is very expensive. I think the charges were around $10 per minute. A better alternative we found was to purchase 30 minutes of internet time at the internet cafe. I'm assuming all ships have one these days (the Imagination did). There we checked on the kids and confirmed our tour in Jamica.

We use the internet to keep in touch. Unless you plan on using it somewhat, but I never bought a "block" of minutes. I just did the minute by minute charge. The cell phones will not work on the ship or in MX.

In Cancun, you should be able to purchase pre-paid calling cards and the rates are rather good (about 60 cents per minute). I don't know if they are available in Cozumel.

I called one of my pre-paid calling cards seviced by AT&T and it is good in Cozumel but NOT Grand Caymen and Montego Bay. I have a pre-paid card I purchased at a US Post Office. I was told that 6 units (each unit cost about 10 cents on the type of card I purchased) would be used for each minute of talking from Cozumel to the US. I was also told that other AT&T cards would work form Cozumel.

When you get a pre-paid calling card for international calls from a foreign country, you have to call customer service and get the number to use to call from each city and/or country.

Use the ship phone to call overseas only in an emergency or for a very quick call.

Does anyone know if there are areas the have phone places (phone with attendants for long distance calls) in Grand Caymen or Montego Bay?
