Default Holiday - 8/16/03 - New Orleans

Just booked a cruise on the Holiday - my wife and I are second time cruisers (Pride - first cruise during Christmas). We realize the Holiday is practically the oldest ship, but we heard many good things about it.....can anyone tell us the real story??? The main reason we are going is that we got a CAT 6A Ocean View for only $450/person for 5 nights.....we couldn't pass that up.....

Also, if anyone else is sailing let us know - we want to party bigtime!!!

Jeremiah and Michele

The picture is from our last cruise - I am in the middle and Michele is on the right....our waiter and his girl got so trashed with us....

Yes, the Holiday is the oldest ship sailing with Carnival...but they have already refurbished the cabins. (New bathrooms, new mattresses, new closets etc)

We just sailed her July 5th.

We were in U100...so while I have others complain about the vibration, it did not bother us. They are putting her in dry dock in December to fix that problem. (along with replacing the carpet in the hallways and public areas and working on the elevators)

They were working on the Air Conditioning...but the cabins, formal dining rooms and lounges were fine. The only place we noticed it was on the Lido deck...which is hard to keep real cool because the doors are constantly opening. Still, it was not a big deal to us.

We have found the food, service and entertainment to be pretty consistant from ship to ship on Carnival...as long as you realize that with this being a much smaller ship....there will not be a sushi bar and other things the Pride may have had. We like the smaller ships because they are easier to get around. But that is just personal preference. There is always the ever popular pizza and ice cream.

The CD is Risa Barnes and she is a delight. If you are into karaoke, Terrence will probably still be stationed there. He is great. (Tell him Linda, his "rum and coke" supplier, said hi!) They had a good selection of songs...but I still took my own. There is an Asian band that plays in the smaller lounge (Doc Hollidays) that is VERY good.

They changed the schedule so that we made Cozumel our FIRST stop and were able to stay until midnight. Just be aware that this is always a possibility. Cozumel is a very fun and very safe place to run around. Sally (from New Jersey ) and her husband own a putt putt golf course in downtown Cozumel about 2 blocks off the beach. Anyone can direct you... they have an awesome "jungle" course. Plus it is always interesting to talk to Americans who have relocated and get their perspective of things.

We had such a good time...we are going back in October. And remember travel is only as good as the attitude that takes you there!!!

I just went on the Holiday on March 1, 2003 and I heard good and bad things about the ship, from the smell to the decor. Let me tell you, I found nothing of the sort. This cruise was better than the one I took on the Inspiration. I was so pleased with the cruise director and the way I was treated that I booked another and I am leaving on August 21, 2003 So we may see you when you are leaving. Have a great cruise and I can't wait to take your place!!!! We are on the empress deck again and DOCS JUST ARRIVED TODAY!!!!! YEAH

ok here goes ,Lets just start by saying this is one of carnival's oldest ships ,and yes if your looking for the wear and tear on this old lady you will find them ,but we were having to much fun to notice them we also didnt take our magnifying glass, but we did notice the art work in our stateroom was hung upside down.Does the ship vibrate yes (very little)i had the best 4 nights of sleep in a long time so for my wife and I we enjoyed it.Is there odors in the halls and rooms yes not all the time(smell like garlic in room ) we ask the room steward to see what he could do for us and so he did .I never ask him why he left water in the bathroom sink with the stopper closed (guess it was to stop the toilet odors. We couldnt understand why there wasnt any food trays to help carrie your dishes and coffee to the tables in the wharf. The food was very not great (still ate to much),The service all round let just say some worker love theirjobs and some cant wait until there contracts are up.Ok get this they didnt have a BINGO BOARD (yes the one that shows the numbers that were called)so alot people wereconfused and there was alot of bingo bongos. They now take your tips out automatic on your signcard, which we didnt like that our busboy said he made more money the old way. And for those like me that spend alot of time in the casino they now charge 3% to take money from your signcard. So did we let these little things bother us NOOOOOOOOOOOOO ,come on people its vacation,ENJOY IT .For the money is was worth it ,we met lots of nice people and had a great time. And having been on a few cruises this ship for its age and dollar value its a great little getaway.
