formal nights

I am cruising on the Inspiration this fall. What I need to know is, about the formal nights. Are they worth renting a tux for about $100, or wearing the wrinkled dark suit that I squeezed into my suitcase, along with the approiate shoes and shirt and tie that I will probably wear just once ??? Is it a special menu ? What do you think about choosing to skip the fancy night and eat at the Brasserie Bar and Grill that night.

Re: formal nights

It's fine to wear your suit. Formal night consists of a lot of picture oppotunities and usually lobster. We just returned from the Conquest and we were casully elegant. No pictures this time being as it was our sixth cruise. We also enjoyed not feeling like we were missing out by skipping the dining room a couple of nights. Whatever you are more comfortable with is my answer. It's mostly just getting dressed up fro the sake of getting dressed up.

Hi Md,
I wouldn't skip the formal night dinner in the dining room, usually a good menu and a great part of the whole cruising expierence. The dark suit will be fine, go and enjoy!

I sailed the Inspiration when it went out of New Orleans on 7 day trip. There is 2 formal nights. So if the Inspiration (whereever she is now) is still 7 day cruise you will have 2 formal nights.

Re: formal nights

The guys in our group missed formal night because they didnt want
to dress up. Our waiter later told us we could have dressed casually
& that would've been fine. On 2nd formal, guys wore a button down
shirt with slacks (no tie). No one stopped us or said anything so bring
that suit if you want. Don't bother w/the tux. Enjoy.

Suits are fine...my husband wore his suit and ties on formal nights (2 on a 7 night cruise) and I wore a nice black dress. I saw guys in jeans on those nights too. Just depends on what you're comfortable in I guess.

But it sure was nice to dress up a couple times!
