Here's a question that I have.....I have not had trouble before BUT just noticed that our travel DOCS say that birth certif. MUST match name exactly......what about us GIRLS who have married and it is a maiden name on that and married name on drivers license.......Hmmmmm....anybody got any ideas????? I know the answer would be to get a passport...but I do not want one, and since I only travel to the Bahamas or the Carib Islands I don't need one..........
All you need is your official birth certificate AND your drivers license/photo ID. They use the drivers license/photo ID as verification of your new name - no marriage certificate needed! (Although if it makes you feel better - take it along!)
Here's my question. Why not get a passport ? I truly do not understand the turmoil people put themselves through when getting a pssport is so easy and it is the ultimate form of ID. With the sole exception of time being short , I do not understand why anyone who travels, even domestically these days, does not carry a passport as ID.
I HAVE BEEN ON 3 CRUISE'S, LEAVING OUT ON THE CONQUEST 8/24/03, FOR
25TH WEDDING ANNIV., I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS, TAKE YOUR CERTIFIED BIRTH CERT. AND DRIVER'S LICENSE. THEY WILL KNOW BY THE BIRTH DATE. THEY ALSO KNOW, THE LADIES NAMES ARE GOING TO CHANGE IF THEY MARRY. I HAVE ALWAYS SHOWN BIRTH CERT. & DRIVER'S LICENSE. NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS. THAT IS WHAT I WILL BE DOING 8/24/03.
You will in all probability never need to show a marrage cert to show why your have a name change.....BUT, as stated it is listed as a required doc and why worry, just bring it. I know you intend to only travel to the Bahamas and the caribbean but who's to say that suddenly they may change and require a passport? I can see that happening in the not to distant future. In addition with a passport you can take advantage of the suddenly can't refuse European or South Pacific cruise or maybe even land tour. Passports are also the ultimate ID and we even use ours as ID for domistic air travel, works perfectly and withour hassles.
Thanks....one girls has been re-married...that would be another nightmare for paperwork.
Passports are the way to go...but just so expensive compared to copies of birth-certif.
I was quoted $115 to get a passport...isn't that a little high?
That's must the price of some expedited passport service. Check online under
travel.state.gov/passport_services.html, all the information you need is there. you can even download the forms, very straightforward. The best part is your passport lasts for ten years and is renewable by mail. Definitely worth the money.
When i went on my 1st cruise back in december. I was just married november 30th and i didn't have my license or passport changed yet.. All i did was take my marriage certificate and bith certificate with my old documents with my maiden name and i had absolutely no problems with getting on the ship.. Prett much right after you get your sail and sign card thats all the real proof they look at anyway...
Ok....I have copies of everything and am probably going to get a passport now.
Just called the local office here at the courthouse and was told $85 total.
Still sounds like alot of money for something like that.
