Medical emergencies

We witnessed a similar experience with the Coast Guard Med Evac on a Victory cruise to Canada in 1999. Of course, everyone from the pool decks watched the helicopter raise the stretcher from the top deck of the ship. The steel drum band continued to play by the pool, oblivious to the goings on behind and above them as the patient was put onboard the helicopter. I'm sure they meant no harm as they had not idea what we were watching as they played "knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door".

We were later told that the gentleman recovered. I hope so! His rescue is one of our favorite stories.

Re: Medical emergencies

Medivacs happen quite routinely. With 3,000-5,000 people aboard the ships of today, for up to a week (or longer) at a time, accidents, illnesses, and so on require medical evacuations. Deaths on board are not uncommon, but don't happen routinely, though HAL has gained a little reputation for having more due to an older clientele :p
