Default comedy appropriate for teens?

I've posted to the Family Cruisers message board, but wanted some specific advise from you experienced Carnival cruisers.

My 13 year old son and I are sailing Fantasy in January. He is QUITE the comedy afficianado. His favorite show is "Whose Line Is It Anyway"and he has taken several comedy improv classes, so he just *dying* to see the ship comedians.

The question is: Is the late night comedy *truly* adults only? I don't mind a curse word or two and the sex humor goes right by him (at this age).

What are your thoughts?

Hmmm... depends on the comedian...

Most of them truly merit the ADULT-ONLY humor title so I'd steer your child away...

I have an intellectually advanced 13 year old and I wouldn't bring her...

The late comedy show is indeed adults only. The F word is used in almost every sentence. It is anounced before the show that anyone under 18 or people offended by profanity should leave the lounge. The same comedian also does an earlier show which is a family show. Your 13 year old should go to the early show not the late one.

Really adult comedy. My kids are normal kids watching normal TV, but the adult comedy shows were too strong for network TV!

These comedians normally will also do all ages shows in the main showroom. That's the appropriate place for a 13 year old to see them.

They will not be allowed in the late night show and if seen will be asked to leave. It is indeed adult only and some are great with the adult humor, some also think using the "F" word itself is funny and it sometimes can get pretty raunchy. As others have said, there are other comedy shows held in the main lounge that are for all and he should go to them but the late night show, no.

Thanks for all the posts, folks! I'm so glad he'll get to see the comedian, just not during the late show.

Typically the comedians I've seen on the Fantasy do their regular show in the early part of the evening and then do a midnight "adults only" show. The early show is about 50%-75% of the midnight show but just cleaned up for younger audiences. The jokes will be repeated, a bit modified, with a lot of raunchy words and descriptions at the midnight show.

One midnight show I went to there were a couple of 13 year old boys in there the comedian noticed and engaged in conversation about sneaking out of their rooms and into the theatre. Once it was established how old they were and he joked a bit about that, he continued with his raunchy routine and the boys were never asked to leave.

Regards,
Thomas

Yikes! My 13 year old is pretty mature, but he won't be attending the midnight show. I'm just relieved there is a "cleaned up" version for him - he wouldn't want to miss the comedians.

Is there a chance he would get to meet the comedian? Should we ask the purser?
