Default electronic mosquito device.

I saw a battery operated device in Wal Mart, that is supposed to repel mosquitos and bugs. I have never heard or seen them before. Does anyone know about them? I was wondering how effective they may be. We are planning on visiting Altun Ha in Dec. and have heard that the insects are very bad. Do these gadgets work? Should I invest in one. They are relatively inexpensive--$8 to $10. Thanks for any info.

These devices are supposed to repel insects by emitting a sonic wave that humans cannot hear. I have been in pest control in florida for 18 years. There are similar devices for sale here. I have never found or heard of one that works. If you want protection from flying insects, I would recommend a good brand name repellent(odorless). Also an old fashioned remedy if you can find it is Save The Baby. Avon Skin So Soft may help also. Good luck.

I live in South Mississippi & we are blessed with all kinds of flying teeth...
I have used Avon Skin So Soft (S.S.S.)mixed with water (1 to 1 mix) & put it into a little pumper sprayer.... Seems to work for me....

We've tried the mosquito device from Wal-Mart and it doesn't work - save your money. The best stuff out on the market besides Avon Skin So Soft is Jungle Juice by REI. The Jungle Juice really works and so does Avon Skin So Soft (it even repels fleas)!

Thanks to all of you for your adivse. I have the Avon S S S and will use it instead of spending the money for the device. I can always use it to spend on the cruise.

Happy cruising to all. Happy Thanksgiving
