I'm interested if someone has recently sailed on the Paradise's Eastern Caribbean trip with the new "Casa de Campo" port? I would like to get opinions of excursions for that port as well as the "Capers" for the whole trip.
We sailed that ship and itinerary in September. You can find our review on the Reader Reviews section of this website, which includes our thoughts on Casa de Campo. Unfortunately, our room steward discarded the pile of Capers I was saving on the last night of the cruise, so they're gone! If you have any specific questions, feel free to email me or post them here. I'll be glad to answer anything I can. It's a great ship and itinerary -- we enjoyed it very much!
I have the capers for all but 1 day I think. I just sailed the eastern on 11/9. I didn't like the Casa DeCampo stop, I think they should eliminate it. Altos de Chavon was pretty but dull (nice photo ops). La Romana (closest city) is very poor and the shopping is poor (a few good deals on rum, coffee and pareos, but the t shirts were bland). There was a guy with a machine gun outside of the one store they took us to(Columbus Plaza, where they seem to take any tourists who want to shop). Cab prices were fair and include wait time. The driver took us to a second market-type place at our request, again, a few deals, but nothing to write home about.
Some people went to the beaches and said they were pretty, but were a 25-30 min. cab ride away (which would have been $70 + tip for the cab(5 people) with an hour or two wait time included).
If you need more info, email me. Also, give me your fax number and I'll fax the capers to you.
