I just booked my cruise for the Carnival Ecstasy on Jan. 12, 2004. We are going on the 4-night cruise to Ensenada and Catalina. Just wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions or tips for us while on our trip! Has anyone been on this cruise...what was your experience?
My experience was good.
Catalina, wow , nice place loved it. Go to the the garden, my brother said it was beautiful. We also rented a golf cart for an hour and went all around Catalina and saw everything we wanted. The ice-cream shop is great. It's to your right when you get off the pier. The ride out from the ship. depends on the time you go, it can be choppingsit on the opposite side of the boat if you can, coming and going., you get let splashing from the boat.
Our steward, then Mario who was are waiter at dinner was wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can order room service and as much coffee as you would like. Also CHECK and RE-CHECK your fees you do not need to give them your credit card number unless you really want to buy things on the ship or use the net. If you feel that you are being unfairly charged go down to the Information desk and talk to the people there. We had charges for things we never ordered. You can also take liquor with you on board and in your luggage. My brother bought two cases of beer in an ice chest right on board and they didn't say one word. It is the best way to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Remember that Carnival will automatically take 15% out of your ticket for gruitities. Only tip if you get good service. Room was in great shape. If we needed things we got them.Watch the shop keepers in Ensenada. Don't buy anything from the kids on the streets, their parents keep them out of school to peddle the products. Take the tour bus into town and take a taxi back. Enjoy the AK-47's, the police are all for the shop-keepers. We had an experience when walking by a shop in town and there was about 20-30 people walking past the same shop. Someone other than the people in my group knocked over a ceramic donkey. The lady runs out yelling for the policio saying my sister did it, which she didn't so the police plus, their military type police guys with the Ak-47's come and surround us all.
The lady wanted the money for the donkey that was "Supposedly" broken by my sister. We had 20-30 by-standers saying she never did it. Then the shop-keeper brought her son out and he was her eye-witness. So they took the lady's side.
My parents went back down to the shop, ordered by the police, while we were followed and watched by the guys with the AK-47's. I found out later that they were going to arrest my parents over this incident. I would recommend EVERYONE TO WATCH out for the merchandise on the side-walks.
Suzanne, we did the Ecstasy about a year and a half ago -- had a wonderful time (we were traveling with friends).
Here are some ideas of what to do in port ... I've done the 4-nighter 3-4 times.
* Catalina -- In the center of town on the main drag, there is a place to rent golf carts. Get there before noon and you get 3 hours for the price of 2. That is plenty of time to see everything, including the Wrigley monument and botanical gardens. If you don't want to do that, you can walk to the Casino and take the tour for $10 (which is fun, too)
* Ensenada -- the wine country tour on board is very enjoyable, and the scenery is great. Also, the blow hole (bufadora) tour is great -- lots of little shops and it's neat to see. You can book it through the ship, or jump in the van at the pier and they will take you for $13 a person.
Hi! There are 4 in our group going on the 1/12/03 Ecstasy cruise. My sister and I have both cruised the 4 day before. My mom and my sister's friend never have taken a cruise.
A few ideas~ bring a lot of small bills for tipping, wear pants to Pappa's n Beer in Ensenada and go only if you are daring or into people watching, bring comfy shoes for dancing in the disco onboard, book a massage from the spa, pack a swimsuit for the hot tub even though the weather will be cool. . .looking forward to the getaway~ no hubby, no kids!!!
