What is the best way to call home while on the ship? I'm reading it's about $10 a minute, which is crazy. I'm also seeing that most cell phone companies don't have luck in the middle of the sea. While in Mexico we purchased a phone card that was about a buck a minute. Is that a possibility when we go to port at Freeport and Nassau? I could handle only having those two opportunties to talk to the kids, but I can't go 5 days without talking to them!! The internet cafe's don't really interest me because my youngest is young enough to need to hear his mama's voice, since he can't read!
Our son was sick while we were gone and we also own a farm with 3000 hogs that need checked on so we had to call home and we ended up having to call using the ship phone, $120 for not very many calls, but I guess you do what you have to do. Nope, cell service even though our company said we would have it we didn't but our calls were 7 dollars a minute, which is still outrageous. Oh well it was just one of those things.
Some of the ports may have a "phone call store." by this, i mean a store where you can walk in and make a long distance call and just pay for the minutes used. In Cozumel, I called Canada for about $1 a minute (U.S.).
Thank you Hadley, that is EXACTLY what I needed, and will look for one of those places at port. Next question----what kind of emergency number can I leave my family here in case something happens here that they would need to reach me? On past vacations there has always been a motel number, but not this time!
