Is that a typical Carnival menu or one specific to a certain ship?
How current would this menu be?

I also understand that the portions are "small" in comparison to what you would get at a typical restaurant and therefore it is advised to order two entres (unless you're on a diet of course). Is there any truth to this?

Do they ever serve an american style meal in the main dining room (eg. chicken, french fries, burgers???)

Kara...every night they make sure they have regular steak or hamburgers for those not interested in the other items. Chicken is offered one way or another almost every night - with the exception of one or two when some other fowl is offered. I think the steak, chicken and hamburgers are listed on the lower right hand side of the dining room menu....at least they use to be. If they aren't there for some reason...just ask or you can usually get French Fries and Burgers up at the Lido deck's grill.

Coach

The menu is the same (7day cruises) on all Carnival ships. The menu is current and has been the same for several years. They do make minor changes occalionally such as the vegatables that go with the meat/fish entree and desserts. The servings are small and many people do order additional plates. I find that the entree is enough for me but I do order more than 1 starter. If the meal is not enough for you you can order 2 entrees at the begining or after you have finished the first. With most waiters if you only order 1 entree they ask if you want more after you have fininshed your first.

I just got off the Triumph and the menu was exactly as written above. I found that the meal sizes were fine and at a table of ten, only noticed two people who ordered extra meals, and they did it most every night. If you are a fish/seafood eater I found the grouper (fresh catch of the day) and the salmon excellent. I gained about six pounds from this cruise so they must have had plenty of food.

If you just want a burger go to the Coney Island grill, you don't have to dress up and they have great french fries and burgers - I ate them several times for lunch.

Have a great time!

Do you happen to know what is on the childrens menue. Also I've read that they give kids 1 free soda at dinner even if you do not have a card, is this true. My son who is sooo picky is very worried about what they will have.

The childrens menu is basically hot dogs, hamburgers and fries. Below is Carnival's policy on your soft drink question.

What is the Fountain Fun Card?
Guests may purchase a Fountain Fun Card which will allow them unlimited soft drinks for the duration of the cruise, at a one time purchase price (including gratuities). With the exception of room service, the Fountain Fun Card may be used wherever beverage service is available.

The card can be purchased at any bar on board the ship.

In all locations where beverage service is offered, guests may receive a glass of the soft drink of their choice. One glass will be served at a time and only to the guest whose name appears on the card.

The cost of the card is based on whether it is for an adult or a child, and the length of the cruise.

Children under 12 can ask for free soft drinks in the dining room whether they have purchased a Fountain Fun Card or not.
