We're driviing down to Jacksonville two days before the ship sails this March 29th. What I want to know is what hotel is the closest to the port that you would recommend. I know in Port Canaveral , some hotels offer free parking during the cruise if you stay with them, is there a similar deal in Jacksonville? Also, how easy is it to find the port?
There is not any hotel really close to the port as it is in an industrial area. I would recommend the Adams Mark downtown, (about 30 minutes away), as the best and most upscale. In all honesty I think you would do best by getting a hotel in St Augustine and visiting that historic town which is about 45 minutes south of the port.
There is lot parking at the pier for $10 per day. There are a few nice hotels downtown (Adams Mark, Radisson, Hilton) right on the St. Johns River and the Omni just a block off the river. These are 15-20 minutes from the pier.
Alternatively, there is a Ritz Carlton on Amelia Island which is about 30 minutes away from the pier. It's a beautiful property right on the ocean and they sometimes have rates as little as $99 per night. Fernandina Beach (on Amelia Island) is an old pirate stomping ground and has a very quaint downtown area with many shops and restaurants. Its much quieter and less touristy than St. Augustine.
I hope you get to enjoy some of our beautiful city and surrounding attractions while you are here!
St Augustine is bueatiful! We live in Jacksonville and go there alot for weekend stays. The bed and breakfasts there are really nice and a must stay at! I like St Augustine because of the history it holds and it is a very haunted city. There are numerous ghost tours you can go on also if you are into that stuff.
As for hotels, there are some near the airport off I95 and the beaches has some also....Or you can stay on the southside of town also which has some nice hotels.
I would suggest you stay away from downtown unless you have to stay there.
