I just booked my first cruise. $900 each for an 8 day Eastern Carribean cruise out of NY. That is for an inside room without a window! I saw another post on the board where somone pair $799 each for a balcony. When we called Carnival they told me I would have to pay an additional $250 pp for a window, not even a balcony!
Sounds like you got a pretty good deal. The prices are dependent upon many factors, most of which are the popularity of the cruise. If the ship is selling well, you won't see much discounting. You can't compare the other person's price to yours unless it's on the same sailing.
I see where you are from NY so I'm assuming you are driving to the port. This allows you the flexibility of booking late. If you can wait until the last minute (within 60 days) to book you might find a better price once the cruiseline starts slashing prices to fill up the remaining cabins. However, you take the chance of getting a less desirable room.
Sounds like a very good price out of New York. Prices out of NY are much higher than Florida. Loved sailing from NY, passing Statue of Liberty. All depends on when you are going. I can only cruise on holidays so I pay premium rates. My friends can go anytime, they shop around, and they get unbelievable rates.
Have a wonderful time and dont worry about the price, sounds good!
