My wife and I are looking to spend some time on the beach in Cozumel. I just read about Playa del Sol, but I do not know much about it. We are looking for a beach that has activities. Any suggestions ? Would you recomend a ship excursion or going on our own ?
Beach activies, visit Chakanaab National Park. Only a 5 minute cab ride about $6.00 per person and then a $10.00 per person entrance fee but everything is there. Showers, locker facilities, mini ruins, lagoon, a swimming platform anchored about 20 yards off the beach. The beach is very expansive with umbrellas and chaise lounge chairs, there is a restaurant and paved walkways through gardens. One site is a National Marine Waterlife center too, you can book a swim with the dolpins or sea lions right there or ahead of time at www.dolphindiscovery.com - way less expensive than booking off the cruiseline (and this is where the cruiseline takes you for their excursion). There are gifts shops, mini straw market type shops, beach volleyball - just a ton of activies. I couldn't recommend this beach enough!
I'm going to suggest Mr. Sanchos. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles - but it is free - just the cost of the Taxi ride. When you get to the Taxi stand the prices will be posted - I believe it was $4.00 each - one way. It's a nice beach - get there early as the tables go fast. Taxi will be waiting to take you back. WHen we were there last time some kids found a really nice shell. Go to their website and check it out - http://www.mrsanchos.com/mr_sanchos/beach.htm . They used to have a coupon on their site for a free drink - you may have to look around. We have gone there twice and plan to go next time. The only thing bad I can say about it is they do have a market place set up there and the merchants will bug you "a little" - but a polite "no thank you" is all that is needed.
They have "good prices", a shower room, lockers, water trampoline and much more. I fyou like to drink - ask about their packages.
