Default Room Service Question

Hi all you past cruisers..... I have another question. Though I've been on two cruises in the past, I have never really found the answer to this question.

Is it suggested that if you order room service, you should tip the one bringing the food?
We plan to do some room service for coffee, and snacks since we have the wonderful balcony this trip.

I've heard that the tips are done differently this time. I hear they are applied to the bill at the end. I was used to the enevelopes and passing them out during the last night at dinner.

So do we tip the room service guys, or is that a part that will be "billed" at the end?

Angie

Just got off the Pride -- room service is done on an as-requested basis. We usually tip $2 each time they bring us breakfast coffee/pastries, etc

The people who deliver room service are different from those who provide services provided under the auto tipping policy. DEFNITELY tip the person delivering the room service at the time of delivery.

I usually get a supply of $2 bills (new ones from the bank) and use them for tipping room service and others. They don't usually see those bills and they often tell me they are going to save them. Just something a little different.

AS said, room service is not covered under auto-tipping and it is customary to tip a dollar or two each time.

Wouldn't they rather have money they can spend?

You don't mention what cruise line. Auto tipping (add to credit card) is, to my current knowkledge done on NCL, Carnival, Princess. You can go to the pursar's desk and remove or adjust as you see fit. RCCI and Celebrity are still done last day with envelopes so be sure to set aside the $$.
As for room service, over 9 cruises only done 2x for coffee and and tipped $2 each time. Plan to do it MUCH more on March trip.
