We have an 8a GUAR balcony. How do they assign these cabins, does anyone know? We were wondering if we should board early (since we'll be in Miami the night before)or board later hoping to get an upgrade once they have filled the 8A deck. Or what's the system? We've never no known our cabin before, and we are hoping for the best!!!
Apparently the room assignments are made before anyone boards, so I don't think early or late arrival will matter. The porters will have a manifest with your cabin assignment on it whenever you arrive. Someone once said they are actually made days in advance, but I don't really know....
Good luck on your upgrade!

For all I know, they use a "magic 8-ball" to determine what guar. cabin you get. One of the "great mysteries" of cruising. I'd get there early (around noonish) not because it will affect your cabin assigment. As it won't. But because it will allow you time to eat at the Lido/explore the ship.
I have sailed 3 different cruise lines all w/ a GTY booking. I NEVER knew my cabin number until I got to the embarcation port. I do believe with today's security regulations pax manifests are finalized by the time they are submitted to the government.
