Default HOW COME....?

How come the cruiselines don't allow passengers to throw confetti and streamers off the sides of the ship when it leaves its place of origin the way they did in the old 'Love Boat' series. Is it a water pollution thing or a major clean-up hassle thing?

Just wanted to know 'cause I've always wanted to do this and it seems like it would be fun.

We sailed on the Conquest last Nov....
I don't believe that Carnival allows people to be near the ship as it leaves....
Only on TV...

I think CruisingDiva answered her own question.

When I embarked from Canaveral, the processing building was right next to port and there was no place for an "audience" Stop for a second and think about it - how many ships leave from the same port once or twice a week?

I personally had my own confetti and fireworks too - in my room after the lifeboat drill !! Wooowhoooo!

it was fun, I remember as a kid, mid to late 1960's going from San francisco to Haiwaii on the Loreli (I think) with my parents. Everyone threw streamers off the decks when it left both ports.

It is unlawful to toss litter into the water for enviromential reasons. It has not been done for quite some time now and I do not think anything like it will ever return.

I bet something that quickly biodegrades could be developed for this. Streamers and confetti that would disolve harmlessly upon hitting water...
