When is school vacation weeks in your state? This will help people plan.
(that's code for people who don't like to cruise with kids)

In ME, Feb break is the week of President's Day, April break is the week of the 19th this year, our last school day is June 14 for my school, because we had one storm day. It's a Monday and I wonder how many kids will actually show up. Then we go back the last week of August, kids have a break again in October, three days at Thanksgiving, and a week and a half to two weeks at Christmas. Our system is set up so the kids have a break every 6-8 weeks. This last stretch from Feb to April is the longest this year, 8 weeks, and since we are cruising April break, this has been the looooongest stretch I've ever had to work thru.
In the metro Chicago area all school districts set their own vacation calendars. Some dates are somewhat pre-set by the holiday they cover, like x-mas or presidents day. However, spring break varies widely. My daughters are both teachers in different districts and have different weeks off. My local district has a different week from either of them. Add the complications of the variety of college breaks with the nearly mid-April date of Easter and there is a 6-8 week spring break period across the country this year. Personally, I would rather cruise with a bunch of smaller (grade school) kids than the early college crowd, especially for a western carribean itinerary.
long Island -New york city- week BEFORE easter...april 5th through aprilApril 14th.
My DH is a Teacher, so we ( no children) are "lucky" to be able to have that time to travel, we are so Lucky......we also get to travel not only with the spring breakers but we get to pay MORE to do so, oh well somethings better than nothing . I'll take it.
....Soon we'll be making another run.....
Palm Beach County, FL has theirs the third or fourth week in march.
Broward County, FL will have theirs about the same time.
Dade county for 2004-2005 will also do the same time.
So the three main counties in south florida who will comprise the vast majority
of "commuter cruisers" will have their spring break in late March 2005.
I dont know how many locals will be on the cruises in late march...but
I expect if Palm Beach , Broward, and Dade each with a population of more than
a million people all have their spring break next year at the same time it will be a very interesting cruise late March 2005.
Spike - thanks for the post....now only if we could get someone from every state to post the school vacations! I don't have a problem with kids, but last year a bunch of us went on the Sensation right after summer break started for most kids in the country, what a bad idea, there had to be 1000 kids on the ship running around like lunatics until the late night hours. I know that they are there to have fun too, but would the parents let the kids run around their home town at 2:00 in the morning.
Spring break varries based on the Part of the country you live in
When I went to DSisney over spring break one year I was amazed about the lack of people
The waitress told me that a good portion of the county plans their spring break around Easter so if easter falls early (It changes every year) so does the break, as in our case Easter had fallen Early the Last Sunday in March
Here in RI Spring Break is always the Third week of April no mater when Easter falls
So the # of kids on a crusie/ spring break depends on how Easter falls
It appears to me that most parts of the County has there winter break around the presidents week So more kids are usally on Vacation at the same time
I teach in a district on the southern side of Houston. Each district in this area is different. We start school in mid August. Have Labor day off, then no breaks at all until we have a week at Thanksgiving. Two weeks at Christmas. Martin Luther King day.
A week of spring break in mid-March. Only a three day weekend at Easter. Our last day of school is May 28. The worst part is that stretch from Labor day until Thanksgiving with no break.
School Starts in mid-August
We are out a week @Thanksgiving, 2 weeks @Christmas, Monday thru Ash Wednesday of Mardi Gras, & Good Friday thru the week after Easter. School ends the last of May (assuming no Hurricanes!)
