Tracy
Tracy,
I am a BINGO player on land. I play Bingo sometimes 7 nights a week if my schedule permits. Mininum amount to play on land runs about $5.00 for a book. The book contains ten games to play and each sheet has 6 bingo squares on them. NOW, on a cruise ship you are given one bingo square for $10.00 or 3 bingo squares for $20.00. You only play ONE game. To me that ain't no way fair. but that's from the view point of someone who is a Bingo player. Now as far as the slots go. I seen alot of people winning a few dollars here and there once we got 20 miles away from port and the casino opened up. However, once we was in international waters alot of people were losing more than winning. I was told that on international waters there is no regulations like on land. They can set those machines to win and lose as much as they want. On land there is a percentage casino's are suppose to pay out. Maybe someone else has some more info about the tournaments because I never played them or watch it being played.

Tracy, I am confused about something. You said your DAD and MIL which I am assuming is your mother-in-law went on this cruise together. Did you mean your Stepmother?

The cruiseline,s casinos are governed by the ICCI and follow the standard payoff percentages and rules established in Las Vegas and the United Kingdom. Slot machines are set at a casino advantage of no more than 17% or in other words they will payout $83 for every $100 put in. Now some machines can and will be set at lower casino odds. It does not matter where the ship is located as to what are the payout percentages.
Programming the machines for a different payout is not easily done and can only be done by switching out the IC board controlling the functions. These "brains" are controlled and regulated and serial numbered.
Bingo, table games like craps and blackjack, and roulette, odds are set by the mathematical probabilities of their respective apparati.
Don't worry about the casinos secretly trying to gouge you and steal from you. Usually a business who tries to give it's customers the business will be out of business soon enough.
The bingo was not fun to play. Too expensive. It would have been nice if you could have played for prizes. But $10 per card and 3 for $20 and its over. My husband just played twice. It would have been cheaper to play the slots and had more fun.
We used to think that Bingo was too expensive...and it probably is. But this is a vacation so we splurge a time or two per cruise now. I actually one this last cruise. The cards that day were for 6 games...not one....the game I won the money was shared by 5 of us.
(We each got $20.) The other five games all had single winners. To them I'm sure they don't feel that their card was too expensive. The price money went up by increments of $20. (Some games...with higher prize money...the cards will only be used for one game.)
We've not participated in a slot tournament.
We have found that we come close to breaking even on the slots if we don't replay our winnings. However, we've heard of people winning hundreds and sometimes thousands playing them. Since it's not a game of skill.....it's who's lucky and who's not.
Sandy what ship was you on? I have talked to many of cruisers about this one subject and I never once heard of 6 games being played for bingo on a Carnival ship? Also the pots are usual 400 or more for the one game or a free cruise. You got me curious now.
