How early can I book a return flight out of Miami, after a Carnival cruise. Is a 11:10 am flight too early? I know Carnival issues VIP luggage tags for early flights, but how early can I expect to get to Miami International Airport? I do not want to miss my flight !
11:10 a.m. is too early. Just keep in mind that no one leaves the ship until it clears Customs and Security. The ship may be late getting back. You have to check in at the airport 1 1/2 hours before departure. The reason that those earlier flights out of Miami (and Ft. Lauderdale) on Saturdays and Sundays are cheaper is that those are "cruise" days, and cruisers don't buy those early departure tickets. Carnival isn't the only cruise line that sails out of Miami/FLL on weekends. You've got Royal Caribbean, NCL, HAL, Princess, etc. Thousands of passengers per ship, and very long lines at the airport. Book an early evening departure and take a ship's tour of the Everglades or Miami/South Beach. No stress there.
Of all the ports we've been to coming back into the US..Miami seems to be the one where it takes us the longest to get all the non-US citizens through customs. They are forever calling people to come show up. With that and what diverdiver said - I, personally, wouldn't risk it.
