Default Safes in the cabins...

From what I understand, each cabin has a safe in the closet for valuables. It the combination always the same, or am I able to set a new combination. If it is always the same, what's to stop anybody w/ access to the room (maintenence, seward, whomever) from getting into it?

Hi,
If I'm correct the safe is operated by swiping a credit card. Since I didn't always want to carry my CC with me for obvious reasons, I was able to use an old "store credit" card. You must use the same card to lock and unlock.

Have fun!

Any magnetic strip card will be suitable to lock your safe. It could be your S&S card, a CC, drivers license, store card, maybe even a bookstore gift card with a magnetic strip.
As mentioned by cruisemon you must use that card to unlock too.

No combinations needed...you scan a credit card and then use that same credit card to again reopen the safe....

I don't advise using your S&S card to lock it for obvious security reasons...I used an old credit card that I had closed out to swipe and lock it and unlock it also.

I find the best way for me is to get a free "gift card" from someplace like Wal Mart and use it. This card has no value. Then it could be put someplace in the cabin for use by whomever needs it. An old credit card may lead to some serious problems. Hope this helps.

Thanks all! That makes me feel much better. I was nervous about leaving all our important documents behind!

i will be with a friend my next trip and we will have seperate important things for the safe. the safe will open and lock with the card that is used to start the process. i am going to bring two cards with the same bar code so we can open the safe if one of us is not in the cabin. this is good if you really have a great trusting person in the cabin.

Does anyone know if the Jubilee has these types of scanning locks on the safes? or do they still require a key because of the age of the ship?

Good question! I think that some of the older ships have the "code" safes...where you punch in a 4-digit code. One of the Carnival ships I was on several years ago had that. You punched in a 4-digit code to open and close the safe. Just can't remember which ship, but I know it was one of the older ones, like the Jubilee. I've never seen a safe on a Carnival ship that used a key.

On the Elation it suggested we use the Sign and Sail card. That's what we did. Since my husband locked it with his, only his worked so it is very safe. They have your picture programed in so nobody can use yours. They also don't have the room number written.

That is really odd for them to suggest you use the S&S card for your room key on the safe also.....On the Inspiration last week they advised us against that and to not use the S&S card for the safe. It must differ by ship or something.

Depends on the ship. Fantasy had the 4 code safe - you entered any 4 digit code.

The Inspiration has the magnictic card strip. The hoiday has the 4 digit code safe. That's the only two ships I am sure of.
