If you book it through Carnival, the cost of the taxi fare to and from Playa Sol is not included. Racking my seniior brain to remember what we paid...$12.00 a person??? Once you get there, the beach and open bar are included. Yes, you can book it on your own - pay for the taxi to get you there, and then pay the admission price that includes the open bar. There's a nice restaurant there (not included), as well as restroom and shower facilities, a freshwater pool, lockers (extra) and beach towels (extra)., a little zoo, and the ever-present shop folks who will try to sell you anything. The "beach" chairs are those molded plastic things. It's a very nice beach, but is also used by Carnival and other cruise lines for some kind of beach/snorkel excursion. It was a hoot to watch cruisers wearing the inflatable life vests sticking their mask/snorkel laden heads under the water to see absolutely nothing while standing in three feet of water!
