In shape for your cruise??
Ok...a little survey. Who is trying to get in shape for their upcoming cruise? Are you trying to drop a few pounds, tone up a bit, etc? How's the success coming?
It's nice to have some motivation to get in shape!

Re: In shape for your cruise??
I am trying to watch what I eat, but I really need to be exercising...I need to lose about 10 more pounds! One good thing to help control hunger is one a day weight smart vitamin but, beware, if you take it, then take it with food, meaning while you are eating.....it works really well though! I have a little more than three weeks to tone up some and lose my 10 pounds!

Re: In shape for your cruise??
Actually my husband and I both lost weight on the cruise. He lost 3 pounds and I lost 5. I was so worried that with all that food we would expand rapidly. We used the stairs alot and just walked around the ship and all the ports. It is great to come back and everyone say "wow you lost weight"
take care,
Victoria

Re: In shape for your cruise??
I went on a cruise in 98, and I lost weight too! I guess my body was so used to fast food and junk, that the change of eating stuff that wasn't as bad for you made me lose weight!
Maybe I will this time too!

Re: Re: In shape for your cruise??
I agree w/ flawedangel on those One A Day vitamins. If you don't have food in your stomach they will definately give you a tummy ache. I've been working out 5-6 days a week. I've only lost 5 pounds but I've toned up in the process so it's all good!

Re: In shape for your cruise??
I've been watching what I eat, trying to cut back on sweets mainly! I've had good success by cutting out ALL soft drinks and drinking 1-2 gallons of water per day....lost about 10 lbs over the last month.
My buddies and I have also dusted off the bowflex and that has given us good results as well (I'm not trying to plug the bowflex, but it really is a great piece of equipment).
Anyway, good luck to you all on your goals!

Re: Re: In shape for your cruise??
My husband and I joined the gym once we booked our cruise, and we've both had some success!
I've been going 4 times per week, doing cardio and weights. The weight loss hasn't been massive, but I've been building muscle so while I weigh around the same (only lost about 5 pounds) I look better due to the muscle tone peeking through.
So between the gym and the fact I spent $250 on a bikini that I HAVE to look good in, I'm plently motivated to work hard to look good :o)
A little dedication and the right mindset go a long way...

Re: In shape for your cruise??
A month prior to departure i started eating
smarter. Nothing radical just reduced
calories, fat, and needless carbs. Do
i really need this candy bar or ice cream
sundea? Avoid fast food chains.
Also did more walking. Park farther
away in parking lots. Take stairs instead
of elevators or escalators.
On the boat eat a sensable breakfast
and lunch. Then enjoy whatever for
dinner.
We got plenty of exercise on the boat
just by walking and stairs. One of my
favorite memories was walking the jogging
track the morning we pulled into Key West.
What a spectacular view and a great way
to start the day.

I lost over 30 pounds since my last cruise so I had to go out and buy new clothes for this one. My main goal now it to stay constant until I come home and then start over again for next years cruise.

Re: In shape for your cruise??
It seems as though I am *always* trying to get in better shape, but not necessarily for my next cruise!
I've dropped as many sweets as I can, eating better in general and have been BACK at the gym 3-4 times a week (after falling off the workout wagon after my January cruise for a month....). I *know* how to shape up and slim down, just sometimes lack the motivation. Especially since my dh is soooooo very fit and has a really, really high motivation rate, coupled with excellent discipline. He just makes me want to punch him!
But yes, I have an ego and want to look better in my bathing suit and my cute shorts and skirts.
Good luck to us all...

Re: In shape for your cruise??
We really take advantage of all the fresh fruit on the ship. That and walking helped us not to gain weight onboard, but the two weeks in Orlando afterwards didnt help much!!

Re: In shape for your cruise??
I lost 21 lbs before my cruise in March, I started to eat less carbs in December. Problem is I drink alcohol. Sprite and Vodka, I try to cut back on it and even try low carb mixers, but I could lose more without that stuff. It sure is hard if you hate to exercise. I take short walks and it helps.

Re: Re: Re: In shape for your cruise??
great posting..the biniki is the great motivator for both you and your husband..be aware that when you do weight training, at first you actually gain weight and then you'll reach a plateau, and then start losing (but not alot)..bu the big question is, after the cruise, what will be your motivation to continue to work out and lose weight ?..the answer is your husband will take you on your next cruise to Greece and you can wear your next new Bikini on the beautiful beaches of Mykonos (smile)

Re: In shape for your cruise??
Nice venice, nice!
My motivation to continue to work out after the cruise is three-fold:
1) the fact that I look better than I ever have in my life right now
2) to lose the 10 pounds I expect to gain during the cruise <g>
3) the next cruise which I'll book soon after we get back home!
I actually just returned from the gym about 10 minutes ago.
For anyone having motivation problems - just think of how good it feels to get back from a good workout. That motivates me to go and "get it over with" :o)

Re: In shape for your cruise??
and you'll live longer, which means more cruises and bikinis (smile)..one of the side benefits of your workouts will be that your body will burn more fat while you are resting which means you may only gain 5-6 lbs on your cruise vice 10...with all the workout machines and exercise tracks and activities on board, compounded with cruise companies are responding to the trend of eating healthy and smart, you might wind up losing weight on your cruises

Re: In shape for your cruise??
Our cruise is not until mid-July - started in the gym with cardio in January and began working 3x a week with a trainer the first of April. Started Weight Watchers mid-March.
Am determined to look better since we'll be in Vegas 3 days followed by the 5 day float.
Great motivator is that you WILL feel better and look better for the trip.
So far: down 20# and hope to be down another 25 or so by departure.
The pain you suffer now will be worth it in the end and if you keep it off your feet will thank you for it (as will the clothing merchants who you'll be buying new clothes from!)

Re: In shape for your cruise??
That's great for all of you who are losing the weight and toning up..........congratulations!!!!!!!!! I really need to lose those last 15 pounds from my last child. He's 3 now and I can't say it's "baby-fat" anymore. I am still in my weight range, I just miss my slender toned body. I have a tummy now, never did before, not even after the first baby, just after the last one.
By reading this post, I hope it motivates me to get rid of the extra weight, or keep the weight and just tone it up. Thanks everyone!!!!!!
What's the quickest way to jumpstart it? Open to all suggestions.
Happy cruising!!!

Re: Re: In shape for your cruise??
For me, the "jumpstart" came when we paid our membership dues once we joined the gym. I'm not going to pay dues every month and not take advantage of it! :o)

Re: In shape for your cruise??
If they have a curves in your area, that is a great motivatin. It only takes 30 minutes, and then you start to feel better, and then you start to see the "skinny" ones, and it makes yu want to look like them. Then you start to eat healthier, and it all falls into place. You look great in your clothes, and even get to buy new smaller ones. Then the key is to keep the weight off for the next cruise, keep one booked for about every 6 months, and that will be enough motivation to stay slim! Happy cruising to all!

Re: In shape for your cruise??
DH and I have been working off the "wait" and the "weight" As we were counting down our the days for our upcoming cruise, we also have been counting down the pounds. DH has lost around 20 lbs, I have lost about 35. We altered our eating habits and added cardio and weight lifing regiment. We feel much better and look forward to taking those stairs on the ship without getting out of breath. Congrats to all of you who are slimming down and/or working out. Stay motivated any way you can ! Sue Sue

Re: In shape for your cruise??
Lost 80 pounds with WW over two years ago and am keeping it off. Feel great. Here are a few motivators that work for me......
You can eat the way you want OR look and feel the way you want
Which do you prefer? The pain of disipline OR the pain of regret?
Best way to get started? Just DO IT. Eat more healthy. Eat less portion size and get in any exercise you can. Most important----stick with it and if you mess up, it's ok. Better to stumble than to fall. Good luck to all.
